Minnesota Twins New Identity

Meh. It’s not necessarily a downgrade from the previous set, as the gold really dragged the whole thing down, but it’s not really an upgrade, either. There are some things I like, such as the solid red wordmark and solid navy front number on the home, and there are some things that I don’t like, such as, well, everything else. I’m cool with a team going minimalist, if done right. Problem is, as people have said here already, this goes beyond minimalist and just looks unfinished.

I dunno. This basically reminds me of every uniform change the Twins have ever made. Mostly a lateral move, some head scratching choices, and is probably going to be replaced again in 5-10 years for something else that’s mostly a lateral move with elements that make you say, “Huh? Why would they do that?”

I'm going to look at this as an upgrade across the board. The previous branding was feeling a bit generic (minus the powder blue), and while this is a simplification, I think they carried over enough character to have it not totally corporatized and made plenty of changes that don't feel overthought or hypermarketed. The single-color numbers/lettering is going to take some getting used to, but with the amount of navy and red teams in the MLB, it allows for the Twins to stand out.  The MLB as a whole has done pretty good with new uniforms and brands for the most part since Nike took over. There's been some misses, but I'm putting the Twins in the hit column for now.

What a huge upgrade. Everything here is better than it was before. The only thing I don't like is road pinstripes but I'm willing to overlook it because of just how great the rest of the set is. That M logo in particular is stunning. Another major win for MLB teams that modernize classic looks, right next to the Blue Jays and Padres.

Wow, very nice overall.  A huge improvement over the previous set.

I love the M cap, and I wish it were the only cap,  with perhaps the TC cap being worn only with the Twin Cities alternate.

The road greys with pinstripes are beautiful.  (Though they don't need two sets of grey road pants.)

The wordmark is outstanding.

The best thing of all is probably the contrasting front number on all the sets except the alt.

The set is not as good as the 1987 set; but it's far better than I had expected.  I'll give it an A-.

I disagree.  IMO pinstriped pants should not be worn with non-pinstriped tops.  It's like wearing a solid blazer with pinstriped-suit pants, or like wearing your pinstriped suit but taking the jacket off.  The former is a gross mismatch, the latter is casual.

It's a minor thing, but just my preference that teams with solid alts wear them exclusively with solid pants.

That being said - pinstriped pants shouldn't have piping or other striping going down them, unless it's part of a more unified thing like the old Mets and Phillies full racing stripes (and even then it's questionable.)

10/10 from me. The striping was done well where the white space between red/blue really pops. Makes them look individual from the 20 other RWB teams.

could do without the twin cities jersey but for a city based alt I’d rather this than anything more extreme. At least fits the brand in fonts, colors, and logos.

A custom typeface will always get me excited, theirs is unique and has personality, but not gimmicky or ridiculous. Great stuff. No unnecessary color outlines.

both Minnesota and Cleveland made unique identities out of an otherwise non-unique color scheme.

Overall 10/10 from me. didn’t have to reinvent the wheel and this look should last for years to come.

So there's no throwback in the set?  Seems like an odd choice considering how popular it seemed to be.

Sort of surprised the main TC and M hats have navy buttons/squatchees. I think they’ve been red for decades. The old M hat will always be a favorite of mine, so hopefully it’s used on a throwback in the near future.

The state sleeve patch feels unfinished (lot of unused navy space) and there’s way too much white space in the corporate logo.

The unis are nice. Way better than the outgoing set. And I’m happy the gold is gone.

If the only road jersey were blue, then I would agree that pairing it with pinstriped pants would be weird. But since there is a pinstriped road jersey, then the use of the blue jersey with the pinstriped grey pants would be, in your own comparison, like taking your jacket off.

They only have one pair of Grey pants, the pinstriped ones.

The pants shown with the blue road jersey do not have pinstripes.

Are you saying that these pants are not grey? If the Twins are going to wear white pants on the road with the blue jersey, and if they are going to have two distinct road looks (a dignified baseball look, and a Sunday beer league softball look), that knocks the overall grade from me down a peg, to B+.

But it's still better than I had expected, and it's still a great improvement over the previous set.

Just returned home from the Mall of America unveiling and wow there were a lot of folks there! It was awesome seeing everyone energized about the Twins, especially considering how the season ended. Were any other CCSLC-ers at the event?!

I love most aspects of the rebrand, though I'm not super fond of the new "M" logo. As soon as they unveiled it, a guy next to me remarked it looks like the old Marlins mark, which many here have pointed out too. Losing Minnie & Paul also sucks, but I do like the new crossed flags logo. Overall, an upgrade imo

I was there! Ended up buying an M hat but got the wrong size... woops! LOVE that gray pinstripes are back and also have wanted a 'Twin Cities' alt for years. I'm pretty lukewarm on the new TC logo and the main home set.

The non-pinstriped pants worn with the navy uni are definitely white in all of the materials on Twitter and the mothership.

Completely and totally horrible uniform set. They were on track in some areas but then took the ideas and made them way too generic.

Some of it has the beautiful aspects of the throwbacks of the past except now it's a soulless, empty, generic, husk of what it's attempting to be.

The Twins organization absolutely blew it with this set.

The blue alt is going to be worn at home with white pants, and on the road with grey pinstriped pants

Yes - and I prefer a more formal look.  I don't think sports teams should have "casual Friday".  It could be fairly argued that a colored jersey is just that, but I'd still prefer a look where one part of it doesn't look like it was clearly designed to be worn with a different top.
