It's pretty pathetic when people are happy because Nike didn't totally ruin the Cardinals.

 

You could argue the Seahawks are iconic. That was Nike's flagship, the first ones they made after taking over from Reebok (I think). That was 10 years ago already though, practically a different era. Chargers and Bengals are the only really good ones I can think of.

As you mentioned, half their "rebrands" have just been corrections of previous rebrands that they butchered (Bucs, Browns, Jags. Jags still aren't even good). That's not great. Lol.

Helmet's cool, the rest meh. So much for our unique color set. I knew that was too good to be true.  The Reddit people actually got it right.

I went out to see the special 25th anniversary release of The Big Lebowski tonight. I come home and open this thread, and my only takeaway (other than the fact the Cardinals social media team did a great job getting people excited about plain oatmeal) is that this uniform set has taken some of the worst aspects of the Lions and Falcons unis, and shoehorned them in because they could. This dude does not abide.

An upgrade! If any team should play into a more simplistic red and white look, it’s the Cardinals. Not a huge fan of the grey outlines on the numbers on the home jersey and the wordmark above is tacky. But the helmet is cool and the black alternates are actually a nice addition and not just an unnecessary BFBS. Overall, solid. Could’ve been a lot worse.

Having a bit of time to digest these, and minus the all red aspect of the home set, they’re not terrible. But they’re not very good, either. It’s basically the original Phoenix Cardinals look with a modern twist. That’s actually pretty close to what I was hoping for all along. The problem is, all of the “modern twists” are stupid and unnecessary. The word mark on the home is WAY too big, and the nickname in the sleeve stripes is just so cringey. It’s such a dumb Nike trend that wasn’t cool a decade ago and still isn’t now. I guess I can live with it, though. It’s definitely more of a refresh, and that’s just fine. If they put the home jersey with the white pants, it’ll actually look really good. 
 

I guess I’m just disappointed that Donovan’s source wasn’t more on point. It’s not his fault, sometimes stuff like that happens. But those changes sounded pretty cool/interesting, and I was excited to see something rather out of the box. Oh well. These will do.

These are fine, so long as they don't exclusively wear monochrome. Could do without the huge ARIZONA on the home, and if they added some stripes on the red pants, but all in all, these are pretty solid all things considered. Substantial upgrade over the last set, so much so this was nearly an A+. However, the aforementioned ARIZONA, stripe-less red pants and monochrome sets keeps them from being an A+.

 

The helmet is outstanding tho. Love that they used the old color rush logo with a silver flake in the white. 10/10 there.

 

All in all, somewhere between a C and B-. Not amazing, but solid.

Missed opportunity to breathe new life into the brand. I get that simplification is the tempting, low hanging fruit these days but c’mon. It’s ok to be a little more creative than this.

Good thing is they kept numbers font and not went with some crazy custom one. Stripes are nice too although silver stripe on white is almost invisible. I hope they gonna mixing pants instead of force monochrome look.

Thoughts...

 

1- Y'all REALLY need to stop reading into it when the Cards use gold in their merch. They've been doing it on and off for most of their existence but they never wear it on their unis. 

 

2- I'm happy the colours remained the same.  everyone who says their history doesn't matter. This team is over a hundred years old. You don't change that tradition to look like some so-so NCAA program on a whim. On that note, the fact that these are more traditional is a plus for me. 

 

3- What I don't like... the collegiate style giant wordmark never looks good in the NFL and it single handedly ruins the home reds. 

 

4- The sleeve wordmark on the roads is also bad. It's bad on Detroit's set, and it was bad on the Bucs' alarm clock number set. Stop trying to make this a thing, Nike. 

 

5- The road colours are washed out. I would have preferred if they went with red and black striping instead of red and grey. I get what they're going for but the grey just doesn't work. Even red and blue to homage the Arizona flag set would have been better. 

 

6- Black colour rush is dumb but that's a losing battle. I'm just happy it's not VT's colour scheme. 

 

I guess I'm mildly happy. Happy they went with a traditional look and kept their colour scheme, but the unis themselves have too many things that bug me that keep me from really liking them.

This is exactly why I like it. They didn't screw around too much, kept it classic while also looking modern. That's about all you can ask for with this team.

I don’t like how the Cardinal logo on the back of the jerseys are different colors on each jersey. They should all be the same color as the primary logo that appears on the helmet.

It’s hard not to call these a massive upgrade when you see them mocked up really well on live action player shots and in non-mono combos.  The Red over White is really a clean, classic upgrade.  The White over Red works.  
 

It’s absolutely wild to me, the state that our society is in, jumping on social media and here and just seeing almost every comment being so completely negative when it’s not truly warranted.  People just love to :censored: on everything possible at every opportunity.

It’s weird, we’re entering an era of redesigns where it seems like home and away uniforms don’t exactly line up design wise with each other. First the Rams (pre-white), then Washington, and now Arizona. Although at least the Cardinals have relatively recent precedence.

 

Speaking of the latter two, can’t wait to watch the Washington Cardinals vs Arizona Commanders game this season.
