BBTV Suicide Watch is on....

Yeah, probably not. I doubt he's all that bent out of shape about it.

The whole McNabb episode was the one sports topic where he steered away from his "I'm not like hardcore fans" demeanour.

I think he pretty well accepted the fact that the Eagles would not be great this season and suggested that he would be fine if the McNabb-led Redskins beat the Eagles since the move to dish him clearly wasn't made with the short-term in mind.

Joe Flacco answered alot of the haters today by leading the team to victory. His numbers weren't the greatest, but he moved the offense very well considering it was against Pittsburgh. The O-line stepped up big time and gave him plenty of time. Also, glad to see Houshmandzadeh actually catch a ball. No wonder Seattle cut him, he's pretty bad.

*slaps BaltimoreFan*

He lead the Seahawks in catches last year, speedy. Only reason they cut him was because they couldn't afford his contract.

That, and he was a total tool in the locker room.

I swear I just heard Al Michaels say that the Giants have sacked Jay Cutler EIGHT times in the first half. That can't be right...

Exactly, he was complaining about his lack of playing time earlier this week after he's dropped just about every pass thats come his way. I've counted at least 4 drops and I didn't see last weeks game. Most of them were in pretty key situations too. I'm happy he made the game winning catch, but I'm also hoping Donte Stallworth comes back soon, so we can drop TJ on the depth charts.

Hey...you know, for eleven years he lead that team. He made some great plays for the Eagles over the course of eleven years. During the eleven years he was in Philadelphia, he lead them to four straight NFC title games and one Super Bowl in eleven years in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform. He loved Philadelphia for eleven years...and reflecting back on his eleven-year career in Philadelphia, he felt he was underappreciated for the things he accomplished for that team over the course of his eleven years playing there.

So after eleven years of many fond memories and such, he lead his new team onto the field against his former team, in a city he played in for eleven years. And his team beat the team he used to play for...for eleven years.

It's a stretch to say that he loved Philadelphia. I'm not going to get into it, but even his former teammates have come out of the woodwork to gripe about what an insecure sour puss he was the whole time, and how his inability to connect with his teammates made it impossible for him to be accepted as the leader and have respect in the locker room. It's hard to explain unless you followed it day-in and day-out. The QB of an NFL team, especially one in a major media market, is simply going to have an unfair share of pressure put on him. That's just how this thing works. Some guys thrive on that, others... well, throw up.

Just got back from working the game. Let's be honest here - McNabb didn't beat the Eagles. The Redskins beat the Eagles. McNabb was hardly better than average. The Eagles showed why Andy Reid is the worst game-day coach in the NFL (a delay after a timeout? Sad thing is that it wasn't the first time) and they validated my earlier posts that unless Mike Vick can play defense, they are simply not good enough, so they need to just play Kolb and take their lumps for the good of the future. It's still unfair to judge Kolb, because he was thrown into a bad situation today, but it's clear that he's not as close as I thought he was. I still don't see any reason why he can't get there, it just may not be immediate. He clearly doesn't have that "game management" instinct that good starting QBs have (for example, with the clock running, sometimes it's better to throw it away even if you have a wide open receiver if that receiver won't be able to stop the clock.)

McNabb got some boos during pre game warmups , then got his polite standing O during intros (though for some reason the players all ran out way before they were announced, and McNabb appeared to be surrounded by linemen) then got booed by most during the actual game (probably because after the "welcome" was out of the way, he became just another visiting player.) There were some fans that applauded him throughout the game, but most of the were silenced by other people in the crowd.

There was a ton of extra security and media down there today. The actual NFL security detail was in the house, which I don't think happens very often. Also a lot of extra cops and security for the Redskins team bus. I'm not sure exactly what they were expecting - some lunatic fan to blow up the bus? Someone to just run out and tackle McNabb? The whole thing was blown out of proportion. We were explicitly told not to talk to media members, as they were going all around trying to get quotes from anyone affiliated with the team in any capacity just so they could attribute it to the Eagles as a whole (for example, usher BBTV says that he thought McNabb should have been let go two years ago, and the headline reads "Eagles say they should have got rid of him long time ago".)

For the record, I gave him his polite applause. It's over. No need to beat the proverbial dead horse. Now all that's left to focus my ire on is Andy Reid.

Is it just me, or has the play this season been particularly bad? I've seen so many games in the first few weeks where neither team deserved to win that I can't even count them all.

No, it's not just you. Add in the usual nonsense where the officials do their best to throw a flag on any play that gains over 8 yards and it's been pretty ugly so far.

Nothing that two more regular season games can't fix.

I was thinking about that while deciding how concerned to be about the Saints. I'll be more worried if they don't simply crush Arizona next week.

But to your point, this has been an odd season. No team has shown any dominance at all, and overall, many of the games have been pretty meh. We've seen some very boneheaded plays you'd expect perhaps from high school players, not well-paid professionals like Mr. Clements of SF and whoever dropped the INT for Indy. Then there are inexplicable decisions, like Indy calling a timeout in the last minute when the Jags had possession, allowing Jacksonville to conserve their only remaining timeout.

But hey, let's add two more regular season games because "that's what the fans want" (cue Iceman: <cough> bulls***!) and while we're at it, maybe throw in a few more franchises to dilute the talent pool even further.

P.S. to Falcons fans: I'm comforted by the fact that the Saints have earned their victories, ugly as they may be. That's unlike the Falcons, who but for two unbelievable gaffes - Hartley's miss and Clements' ridiculous failure to get on the ground - would be 1-3.
