2014-2015 NHL Jersey/Logo Changes

their rejected 10-template system

What now?

The original RBK Edge system was first introduced to the owners in 2005 with 10 templates, all of them featuring mostly vertical stripes. Teams were to pick their template, and RBK would put the colors in the right places and the logos on. That proposal was rejected, I've heard with 0 owners in favor of it.

They came back in 2006 with a more open premise and it passed, which would mean RBK swayed 16+ owners in one year, which is still suspicious to me. That system was implemented in the 2007-08 season.

I believe some of the remnants of that system that saw the light of day were the template used by the Flyers and Thrashers, the template used by Nashville, Colorado, Florida, and Washington, and the template used by the Penguins, Senators and Lightning (and that Canucks prototype), though there are no photos of what those original 10 designs were.

I'd imagine this must have been proposed as one of the 2005 designs:

It's not like Colorado's mountain range was super detailed. It was just zig-zag striping. Very easy to do. Make it happen Avs.

I've seen something very similar for the Bruins and Red Wings. Thank goodness they never came to be.

That was CBC's mockup based on the rumors they were hearing. The actual jersey was the hemline-stripeless pajamas they wore until recently

Does anyone know why the Rangers are in white at home? I turned on the tv to watch my flyers and they were in their winter classic alts. Does anyone have inside info?

So watching tonight's Rangers-Flyers game, both teams are going old school...to the pre-2004 days of the home team wearing white and the road team donning the colors.

Even though I prefer this to today's NHL color layout, it seems weird to see this.

Reebok said at the time that they could have done it on the Edge sweaters, but Colorado said no. It's definitely on the team.

Because the NHL has finally come to its senses? PLEASE!

I preferred the "redder" shade of burgundy they originally used...

...though over-outlining aside, it was a top-tier look.

White should never be worn at home in hockey. I don't like it

it's much better than seeing white away jerseys day in and day out. makes some variety in what you are seeing, especially those with season seats

White at home means the fans can see white vs orange, white vs red, white vs black, white vs blue, white vs yellow...you get the idea.

The Rangers in blue means the fans can see blue vs white...every single game.

I guess that's true. I always assume white as the road color. Maybe it's cuz I'm a diehard penn state fan... Hahaha

I'm an old timer and remember the whites at home in the NHL.

Ideally, I'd like to see white at home the first half of the season, and dark at home for the second half and playoffs. It's done that way in the CHL and I think it's a good compromise.

It should be white at home except Montreal. White is the color of good (just not in Korea).

That wouldn't work and could lead to plenty of road trip problems...

Pack your whites for trips to Montreal. That's one problem, and I solved it.

I'd say "the league managed to wear white at home and sometimes dark alternates at home without shutting down," but then I remembered the league switched home and away sweaters and then actually did shut down.
