2019 NBA Playoffs Thread

Hate to change the subject from reverse virtue signaling but:

Raptors fans: how do we feel about Kawhi? Is the insecurity about his next contract an issue? Do you miss Derozan at all?

no judgements or anything, just curious about the modern team assembly after-effects.

Dude shouldn't have touched Lowry, no doubt. But DAMN is some of the reaction over the top. Toss him, ban him from the remainder of the series, and let this die down in a week like it inevitably will.

Charge him with battery? Ban him for life? Pump the brakes, y'all.

Cut off one of his feet. And to show that we're not total barbarians, he can choose which foot.*

*The preceding joke was used on Twitter in reference to something that happened in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I don't remember what it was, just that it was a reply to a McCarthy tweet.

He's already done so much for this team. Would I like him to stay? Yeah. Am I thinking about that right now? No. I'm focused on this series and nothing else.

No. I mean he was a great star for the Raptors, but they hit their ceiling with him. I'll always be grateful for what he did for the team, but it was time to move on.

This is all very fair!

Asking as a fan of a team that seems exceptionally desperate to get one dispassionate year of Anthony Davis.

I like the people who want him to be banned for life and forced to sell his share of the team. Making him get cash for a fast-appreciating asset? g-g-g-g-got him

Just like when we banded together to teach Jerry Richardson a lesson by forcing him to make a couple billion dollars.

He could've sold the team on his own volition if he wished.  The fact that he didn't suggests he would rather own the team than have the couple billion dollars, so yeah, it was a punishment.

Steph Curry is unreal, but even he couldn't help the Warriors overcome Toronto Mountain.  Toronto is a hell of a team, and are clicking at the right time. I'm not sure Warriors fans, let along NBA fans not in Toronto knew how good the Raptors are.  This is a fun series, there are only two annoying things about these Finals: Drake and Scott Foster.

As far as the Marks Stevens situation, The NBA over-reacts when it's fan vs player because of it's history with that. My feelings on the issue itself aside, as an owner, you represent the Warriors organization, but as far as I know, at the game, court-side or elsewhere, you're still a fan and are expected to follow the same rules fans do. I haven't been to NBA game in years, but I'd imagine they still make an announcement to stay off the court and not contact players or something along those lines, even if it's as broad as 'don't do anything to disrupt the game".

If Derek Jeter did one of his try-hard stage dives into the stands running down a pop foul and someone gave him a little shove on the way back to his feet, I don't think there would have been this kind of outrage. Everyone on Twitter and r/nba just wants to be Ta-Nehisi Coates and weep over the violated autonomy of "black bodies."

I liked when @Digby said "reverse virtue signaling."

Also, I don't think you're right. I think most leagues don't allow fans (or minority owners) to shove players. Pat them on the back, yes. But shove and verbally harass, no. Especially in the NBA. Those fans are asked to leave.

I've found that the anti-SJW's are way more annoying than SJW's, especially when they try to play victim.

Love 2 only engage with a topic when there's an opportunity for unprompted moaning about SJW's

Question, has a league superthread been shut down before? Or will we just have four pages of “edited by [insert mod here]”?

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

I was at the Bridgestone invitational in Akron one year and a kid standing next to me slapped Tiger Woods on the back as he walked from the hole to the next tee. Like six security guards materialized out of thin air to promptly escort him and his father off the premises.

Who knows. This season's previous NBA thread "disappeared" with Mods not knowing why/how, so there's precedent already.

That was me, I had to ensure that all traces of me saying anything positive about Kyrie Irving were erased, my apologies.

Well, Tiger Woods didn't fall into a crowd of people. Why couldn't any of these people de-escalate and laugh it off? Does this league run off hurt feelings?

You're smarter than this. There are a thousand different things you can point to about Jeter that wouldn't get a worthwhile response, but running about 100 feet to make a catch on a dead sprint less than 15 feet from the stands is not a "try-hard stage dive". And I'm being specific here because that play against the Red Sox (it was a fair ball, in extra innings, and would've scored two runs, btw) was about the only time he ever did what you describe.

No because they would be taken out of the stadium and then banned from all future events there. But because this was the finals, and an owner doing this it is going to be an issue, and blown up. If what you described happened in the World Series, and by Bill Maher (he’s a minority owner of the Mets) you can bet it would also be front page news.

This is a gorgeous looking matchup tonight, love the contrast between the red and the grey. Only way it would be better is if Golden State wore their blue uniforms, which are top notch imo.

It's 2019... this whole country runs off hurt feelings.

Wait... what do the Mets have to do with the World Series?
