All of the above took place for the Browns, who began the redesign process with the NFL in 2017. It started with a small meeting that included Browns owner Dee Haslam and Executive Vice President and Owner JW Johnson. 

The request was simple: Get us back to our roots.

The NFL's and Nike's collective response? Easy enough. 

"These guys then took that idea and really realized that the old uniform prior to this current one was needed to be the North Star," Wright said. "Then, how do you get there in a way that is slightly modern but does not deviate from who the Browns are?"

I'd love to see them throw in the option of grey and white facemasks as well. A perfect look for me would be grey at home, white on the road and brown for color rush. And some orange pants of course.

Yeah exactly and then some of them say "well I haven't watched the Browns in x amount of years. So these look the same to me". Like yeah that's the point, they're going back to the old ones that were so much better

I'm not the biggest fan of orange pants, but I wouldn't be surprised if these are brought back as soon as next year, as pant additions aren't affected by the five year uniform rule.

Yeah - I hate the logic of "this stripe SHOULD be this because it's this on this. 

 

No, the double orange bars are uniform for the home uniform and the road uniform. If the sleeve stripe on the home is white-orange-white-orange-white, why not argue the stripe on the pants shouldn't have a brown fill? You see? Why is one perfect and not the other. 

 

The home uniform is uniform because it has double orange stripes, and gets its completeness from the fact there are variations to add color and fill.

 

The road unform is uniform because it has double orange stripes, and gets its completeness from the fact every single stripe sequence is the same. 

 

Those two are perfect in themselves. Saying the striping patterns need to be a certain way to be perfect is overthinking it.

Your entitled to your opinion of course, but I don’t see the stripes being such an egregious mistake. I see the logic behind those layouts perfectly.

 

 

I see the logic behind the layouts, too. The O/B/O is the classic stripe layout on the white pants, and does match the three interior stripes on the white jerseys. I think I still would’ve preferred O/W/O stripes on the brown pants so that there’s white on all elements, but I see why they went with O/B/O to match the stripes on the white pants and match the three interior stripes on the white jerseys. I don’t think they’ll wear those brown pants with the regular brown jerseys at all, so the mismatch between the brown jersey stripes and brown pant stripes should never be an issue. If they do wear brown pants with the home brown jerseys (which hopefully they won’t), they’ll likely just go with the alternate solid brown pants.

On the surface, it seems like a bit of a head scratcher that they dropped the old CR set for this one, but I get it. I bet the sales were vastly better on that CR jersey than any jersey they had. Ditching it would’ve been a terrible idea if they hadn’t just fixed the home jerseys. The new home jersey is the most similar jersey in their new set to that CR jersey (which people liked) but different enough so people will buy it.

 

And if I was front office staff I would rather have people buying the “new” home jersey than an alt. Might as well strip the alt completely down so it doesn’t compete that heavily for sales. It’s only worn once or twice a season anyway.

The $79 jerseys actually say Color Rush in the collars. The $99 and up have the 1946 tags.

The helmet is still the primary logo so unless they use the elf for the broadcast logo he'll be more a way to sell stuff to people like me who hate having the helmet logo on everything.

I actually like the new font because it's not  a simple block look and in motion most folks won't notice that.

The home's and away look fantastic. I wish they had a grey or a white facemask instead of brown, but it's okay. Also think they should add some orange pants at some point.  Do not like the color rush[?] set at all though. Yoga brown pants are stupid.

Overall, a great upgrade by essentially hitting the reset button and the best uniform change so far this offseason in my opinion.

The uniforms are very nice. How they should always look, but I have a big issue with no orange pants. I think the Browns look the best with orange pants home and away so to see them cast aside again for white and brown (ugh) is annoying.

 

I’m also stunned they didn’t use this opportunity to introduce a proper logo for the brand. The helmet should remain untouched, but everything else should have a legit logo on it. A picture of the darn helmet.

 

Objectively the uniform is an 8 or 9, but I really want to give it a 6 for the lack of orange pants. *Mutters under his breath* they did good.

Definitely similar, but with more hard edges and pointed corners. Both fonts are adaptations of classic block, with the new Browns font being more of a subtle adaptation in comparison to that Vikings font. I’m just glad they didn’t go all in on matching the wordmark font, as the numbers in the character set of the wordmark font are too thick and stray a bit too far away from classic block:

I'm giving this a 9/10.  Awesome modern take on a classic look.  The color rush unis suck, but that's the norm across the league for the most part.  Only dinged them for no orange pants option, since that looks great from the photoshopped look we saw above.  But I'm sure that will come with time.  They look great.  Kudos to the Browns for getting it right.  Let's see what the Chargers/Pats/Rams have in store now...
