NFL Changes 2021

I always wondered that too, and that was one of the reasons why I came to the conclusion that if you need two pair of the same color pants to make your uniform work, you designed it wrong.  Maybe they had some thought of having orange pants with navy panels to wear with the white jerseys and therefore needed the navy panel to exist?  Either way, it was a poor decision.

I vividly recall when they were unveiled, as I was in college at the time and despite being a big uni-nerd at the time that regularly designed concepts that used elements like piping and panels, which were at the time unheard of in football, I wanted to vomit when I saw them.  Elway looked like a complete fool in the get up.  It doesn't help that hundreds of college and high school programs grifted the template and have since moved on, which by no fault of their own, makes the Broncos look like the last ones to get the memo that it's not cool anymore.

The uniforms clearly look better to me with navy tops - the orange has never looked right.  It's well past time for a change.

Nah the orange panels wouldn’t work on the roads IMO. The orange isn’t dark enough and would just look kinda washed out in comparison to the navy heavy look. Denver made the right call on that one, I think.

I genuinely don't know where this idea that the Broncos uniforms are some overly designed garbage is coming from. They have a single stripe, that's it. The uniforms are simpler than the majority of the league's. But I also have a feeling if they simplified their uniforms even further to a plain orange jersey and stripeless white pants this board would flip flop and call it a monstrosity and laud the old ones just like the Patriots and Falcons admittedly not perfect but still much superior updates.

Nah, he looked fantastic!

He wasn't as awkward-looking as end-of-the-line Peyton, so the sleekness fit him well. If he'd gotten really fat or had other aging signs, then it'd look more ridiculous. The panels being a singular element, instead of being one of many features (e.g., Cardinals, Falcons, Vikings, etc.) helps it work.

If you want "old QB looks like a fool" designs, these are a better case:

There's a lot more "going on" with the late-'00s/early-'10s Vikings design than on the Broncos' uniforms.

Or, and this is the key here, they figured out that it looked it good on them and it outlasted all the imitators by being the best possible version of said template (e.g., the number font, color choice, and simplicity of the overall design choices).

I think they ended up with two sets of white pants as kind of a last minute save. IIRC, the design was supposed to be all navy at home, all white on the road (Nike has been pushing that now for a quarter century), so the only white pants they needed initially were the one with the navy spike/stripe to match the white jersey. John Elway reportedly said no thank you (showing better judgement with uniforms than he has with drafting QB's) so they threw together the second pair of white pants with the orange spike/stripe to make it work.

IMO, the navy jersey/ white pants version looked significantly better than the orange jersey/ white pants does, which makes sense, as a navy heavy uniform with orange accents was the original idea, and the orange jersey was only supposed to be an alt. However, I also agree the the Broncos need to be a team that features more orange, as that is their traditional look. All the more reason to euthanize that on-it's-last-legs turn of the century look. If they want an orange jersey, they need to design something that was meant to have an orange jersey.

Oop! Meant to say name on back.

Thanks for the catch.

While yellow names on white jerseys doesn't seem to make sense, it at least maintains a name color consistency with the black shirts. Plus, in 1997, the first year of the italicized numbers - the names on the white tops were single color solid black. Didn't look right.

I think uniforms should be judged on their own merit, and don't believe at all that if people didn't know this jersey was blue originally, they would legitimately critique it for "looking like it should be blue".

This should be the Broncos full time look. (keep the Navy from the current set as a throwback/alt and only keep the white pants with it.)

Or...make the orange jersey navy, replace the stripe on the shoulders with the one from this helmet

What the hell is up with that spike on his shoulder?  It’s no longer a graceful curve but an awkward mess.  Instead of one crisp point like on the pants, it has an awkward two-point terminus.

Looks like the nail file that comes with clippers.

Damn, Nike’s templates can’t even support a Nike design.

Its the photo. If you're going to hate on nike's template, fine. However don't pretend that tiny detail is the cassus belli against the uniforms when the various jersey cuts have screwed up pretty much every team somewhere along the line.

Perfectly fine:

Looked better in my head. The colors are very unbalanced; a ton of orange on the pants and very little everywhere else.
