BC985
When your league is constantly making headlines for poor logo design (Chicago crown, Montreal snowflake, Columbus flag, and now San Diego) maybe, just maybe you should hire some design consultants Don Garber. It is embarrassing. This goes without mentioning that Nashville is not very good and St. Louis almost immediately pivoted to their secondary logo that I believe will be the primary within a few years.

PrimalCookie
For anyone keeping track, that's the 6th [City] FC (or something like it) in the last 8 expansion teams, and 10th overall: 1. FC Dallas (2004) 2. Toronto FC (2007) 3. New York City FC (2015) 4. Los Angeles FC (2018) 5. FC Cincinnati (2019) 6. Nashville SC (2020) 7. Austin FC (2021) 8. CF Montreal (2021) 9. I don't hate the crest as much, but everything else about it doesn't vibe with me, how can chrome be a color on a jersey? Are we looking at the Trash Bag Mavs? So I took your prompt and this is what ChatGPT gave me, much better than the actual team.: Team Name: San Diego Surf FC Colors: Blue and Gold Logo: The team's logo could feature a wave or surfboard design to represent the coastal location of San Diego, with blue and gold colors to reflect the sea and sunshine. 5 1

I feel the way it works sometimes is the team asks for a logo, and while the team is getting community/fans input, SUM separately hire some company to do their own logo independent of the team. These ideas are then combine, the fans input gets ignored, and then the league gets some designs, and then they take their one choice to the team and be like "Take it or leave it". I feel like Columbus (name change), Montreal (snowflake), Chicago (fire logo), owners did not have a choice this is what the league gave them. And part of the way to save face was those owners were forced by the league to take the bullet. I think the Sounders had enough clout to say NO to MLS/SUM to be able to have more control. I would say Portalnd (when they switched to the secondary) and LA (lafc) as well.

That San Diego badge is bad, but I actually like the Columbus badge. It's not a roundel, it kept the team colors and the pennant design is a bit different. That C in the badge could use a change though, I'll admit. That San Diego badge is more useful for a league design than a team's own badge.

The Roundel made some sense for Crew though, as it formed an O for Ohio and it did keep the shape of the first logo for the team in the form of a container for the foundation date. Nothing wrong with a roundel if it's done well, and it strays away from the sterile "City Group" style.

The best names and identities in MLS are the four west coast franchises based upon NASL teams. 1 1 Quote It is what it is.

One of the few good ideas that came out during Anthony Precourt's Tenure as owner of the crew. Personal opinion, I think the Ohio Pennant Flag as a crest works better than a roundel. But the current crest the Crew have missed the mark. Revisions are sorely needed. (The Idea works, the execution of said Idea did not work) As far as San Diego FC crest goes: Its passable. Its a crest. Doesn't scream "San Diego". And all those lines make this crest feel more like a volleyball team than an association football club.
Maroon
The absolute worst crest in all of MLS. The chrome is bad enough but at least it could be forgiven, the rainbow-adjacent gradient outline is heinous. The primary visual on the logo also is just some abstract lines and curves that mean nothing. They fabricated four “virtues” to justify something that isn’t identifiable as anything. And as for those “virtues” I don’t think it makes a lot of sense for one of them to be - literally - that they aren’t loud. 2 Quote StL Cardinals - Indy Colts - Indiana Pacers - Let's Go Blues! - Missouri State Bears - IU Hoosiers - St Louis City SC
