Vikings Throwbacks

Yay, I was right!

How much you wanna bet they try purple pants in Jacksonville this Sunday?

I'd like to see em wear em once or twice just to mix it up.

Well I was wrong, as they went all white again. I thought this game would have been the perfect opportunity to mix it up.

By the way, can we stop all the "purple has changed" nonsense, once and for all.

You know what's changed? Color TV technology.

It has changed three times (that I know of so far) since 1979.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have implied that its NEVER changed, but my God... everytime a Viking discussion comes up someone complains like they change the purple every year. Remember after the last uni update with all the "they went blue!!" posts?

Oh sure - I know what you mean. Too many people judge these kinds of things based on bad photography or uncalibrated TV sets.

Drives me crazy too.

I just got my Vikings fan newsletter and it said they are wearing throwbacks on Nov. 30 against da Bearsss.

I am excited.

And they should continue to wear them...forever.

Amen.

Concur.

As a Viking fan for nearly 40 years, the classic jerseys just look so, so "right".

Now I concur with this...and the fact that they should go back to the late 70's uniforms...MUCH better looking than the current ones, imo...

. At least we will be able to see a beautiful uniform match up, which will hopefully distract us from the pitiful slap-fight taking place on the field.

Wow. That might be the gayest thing ever said. If you're tuning in to admire the clothing, maybe you'd be better served watching Bravo or Logo this weekend.

Are really calling appreciating uniforms 'gay' on this message board? Why are you even here then? By that rationale we're all 'gay.'

I don't think you can blame the equipment - purple is just one of those colors which tends to respond wildly to lighting conditions. Indoors, outdoors, sunlight, artificial light, looks good under some but not others.

We see it with the Lakers all the time - even on HD, it tends to blue under the lights of most arenas.

Happens with others, but seems especially strong with purple. Navy blue fades to midnight under the lights, but it still retains its blue-ness.

Sometimes the fabric fades badly as well - I remember some of those 1970s/1980s Lakers road uniforms where in some shots where sometimes the jersey would turn out "pure purple" but the shorts would look more blue; other seasons it would be the other way around.

Lighting and feed can do really bad things with colors as well; even navy blue. Yesterday our market's 1:00pm NFC game on Fox was the Bears/Rams game from the dome in St. Louis. The feed was so bad that the Bears looked black and the Rams looked darker than the Bears normally look outside. In the 4th quarter we were switched to the Eagles/Ravens game (outdoor game at Baltimore) and the Ravens jerseys really popped as "pure purple" from that feed.

Yes. Yes I am. If you're tuning into a sporting event to see the splendor of the clothing, and not the sporting EVENT....yes. You might be gay. Not judging. My aunt is gay, as is my roommate. Just making an observation. C'mon...." a beautiful uniform match-up?" 99.9% of people will say "hey. nice uniforms." and that'll be the end of it.

I'm here because I enjoy seeing people's graphic talents on display. Is that OK with you? I'll enjoy seeing the old school uniforms this weekend, but that "joy" will last about four seconds.

You're definitely in the wrong place if this kind of talk seems out of place or even "gay".

That and in a Bears Vikings matchup, the uniforms are about the only thing that there is to appreciate anyway.

You did notice what this forum is about before you signed up right? We kinda get into the whole aesthetic thing around here. And yeah, there are more than a few if us who tune into games specifically to see the uniforms. Nice work on the homophobe thing. :censored:-hole. You won't last long.

hmmm... I don't know who to agree with on this one, fsuviking or the rest of you. On one hand, yes this will be a great uniform matchup. It will be easy on the eyes. On the other hand, yeah it'll look nice, but the effect will wear off during the pregame show when they show players warming up. Can't say i'll sit there the whole game gawking at the "beautiful uniform matchup". I don't watch a game for good uniforms (although it's a plus), i watch a game for the game.

1/27/09- It was me, and I am sorry.

I never said I would sit the whole game "gawking at the uniforms", and I didn't say that I watch to see the uniforms, not the game. In fact, due to the current NFL, most of the hundreds of games I have "suffered though" over the last 5 years have featured horrible uniforms. I guess I watch the games to see football, afterall.

So, are you in junior high, where everything is gay, or do you feel the need to show how gay everything is to prove to yourself that you are a "true man"? Take a look in the mirror, Junior.

Sounds stupid, but I can't even stand to watch the Vikings. Between the lethel combination of the Metrodome and their uniforms, they are a disgrace of a franchise. Teams like the Vikings, Cardinals and Falcons should be banned from the NFL for having uniforms from the Arena Football League. Until they change their looks, nobody will take them seriously.

The sad part is, their old uniforms were classic and pretty cool.

The Vikings, Cardinals and Falcons ditched old uniforms, that were COMPLETELY out of style. All 3 look light years better today, then they did 10 years ago.

The Vikings new look is fine. Just need to wear the purple pants some, to cap it off.

Word.

Cardinals just need to change the facemask to black or red and they'd be fine.

Vikings are close - a more custom number and NOB font is necessary, as is the useage of purple pants on the road.

Falcons just need to wear the originally-intended white sock with thick black stripe with their black pants instead of the solid black. Then they'd be fine.

Ahh, come on. Possibly the only thing lamer than calling something "gay" is responding to that by doing an ad hominem reversal.
