DustDevil61
Yay! Another uber-simplistic, unimaginative update!
CS85
It's been their favicon for awhile now.
The Golden One
It's been their favicon for awhile now.The app icon had already changed to that too.
chrysleraspen08
I think the app switched over to this logo a couple of weeks ago.
sportstar1212
The app icon has been that for the last week or so. I don't like it too much, it's too simple.
habsfan1
Yay! Another uber-simplistic, unimaginative update! They had to make these changes, otherwise they won't look as "big" as they really are. I knew a change was coming.
STL FANATIC
Not sure what you'd want from them. You can certainly discuss the text, but the icon is perfect. It just makes sense.I think I'd have preferred a bolder font for the type, but that would be nitpicking. This is a very good update.
Gothamite
The app icon is a huge upgrade. A simple and clear graphic replacing a text-heavy icon.
Saint Zephyr III
It's definitely in line with Google's whole aesthetic; if anything the old logo ended up standing out like a sore thumb. And the website itself already HAD the current logo so it's nothing new just something brought to prominence.Much better, iconic even.
DustDevil61
OK, OK...Upon further review, my main reaction was over the text and the overall design. I despise this "simple text" trend all these companies are going to these days. The icon on its own, however, is good, but as a whole package, there's a lot left to be desired. Evil G
Ehhhh....The old one was better. By miles.
Bayne
Wow, everything is morphing into the simplistic, flat, 2-toned version of itself. Really emphasizing the importance of positive and negative space in designs these days.
Radiohead
Generic, uninspired boringness. Appropriate though, given the music/entertainment getting the most views. This logo was designed by either a 4th grade novice, or the inventor of the autotune...generic, uninspired boringness.I miss the days of exciting, memorable popular culture (and logos). As technology advances, imagination seems to devolve. Just waiting for the pendulum to swing back. It usually does.
KDubK414
I like it. The play button is more iconic with them now, so making it the emphasis is actually cool. Looking at the side by side, the Tube in the old timey TV shape served it's purpose. But now with more people watching "YouTube" on all kinds of Smart Devices even flatscreen TV's. You use the play button more and more. It's basically them entering the new modern times, a time they helped advance.

CS85
I can't remember who said it or what thread it was in but the reason for this happening is for maximizing the visibility and recognition-factor for device app icons.
Gothamite
And it does. Perfectly.
