College Football Uniforms - 2015 Season

Not groundbreaking, but Boise State announced that they are wearing all blue for the opener against Washington. Also, they aluded that the orange helmet is not in the rotation for this year.

What happened to the ruling about them wearing all blue on the Smurf Turf? Was that just a Mountain West thing for in-conference games, or was it an NCAA ruling?

I'm not anxious to reopen the whole "Boise gets an advantage from camouflaging themselves into the turf" argument.

After Boise St. had agreed to join the Big East (when it had a bcs spot) and had some leverage power to come back to the Mountain West, the conference decided to do away with the rule.

AH, right! Totally forgot about that. Thanks for the refresher.

That was back when everyone and their brother was going to join the Big East.

Virginia Tech is going to honor the two journalists killed during a live on-air television report last week. Alison Parker and Adam Ward were reporting for Roanoke CBS station WDBJ7 when they were ambushed and shot to death by a former colleague, who later killed himself. During the Labor Day game against Ohio State, the Hokies will wear a sticker that features the number "7", one teal ribbon, one maroon ribbon and the initials of the two victims. Teal was Parker's favorite color, and maroon represents Virginia Tech grad Ward. The number 7 represents the television station.

For Boise they should only use 2 helmet colors. Blue and white. And then blue, white, and orange jerseys, pants, and socks. I'm fried from a recent test so I can't think of what I would like the design to be but I think this would be a good start.

Halloween isn't until October. At least they'll be able to be seen from space.

I've often wondered why there aren't more bright uniforms. It would seem on offense it would be an advantage to see your teammates more easily. Although I guess it would be the opposite for defense (you'd want to be hidden). But if the goal of a uniform is to differentiate your team from the other team, the brighter and bolder the look, the better it is at achieving that goal. Right?

I can't blame VaTech for trying to do a nice tribute, but I think they should have left off reference to the station. Not only does it already include reference to the two victims, but I don't like them putting the station's logo on their helmets.

The CBS eye/station logo isn't on there, it's simply a generic '7'.

Still feels a bit odd with the station number. Maybe they could have put their birth years or the date of the incident if they wanted to include a number? This sort of thing is hard to do, though, because it's not like you're just putting an American flag on it or a pink breast cancer ribbon.

How exactly do you honor murder victims? It's not an exact science, but points to VT for trying.

Too bad he's wrong. The advantage is not massive but it exists especially from the scouting standpoint. Player identification and movement breakdowns from an all 22 frame is more difficult which requires additional time to identify thus making the scouting process more difficult. On field is debatable but defensive recognition may be impaired as well as opposing qb's may overlook db's.

It's actually the TV Station's 7 logo, not a generic 7.
