From the way that the white color rush is talked about, it sounds like they are loved enough to be kept around. Most teams don't keep their color rush uniforms when they go into a new uniform design.

I like Wild Hogs as a dark horse. I'm not usually into wacky/wild names, but I think this one works as a nice fan tribute. Griffins, Aviators, Riders, and Wolves/Redwolves also work pretty well IMO. The rest either don't fit (Royals/Monarchs) or are just bizarre.

 

My number 1 choice would be Warriors, but with all the backlash I've been seeing from that name, it looks like it won't make the cut. It's a shame, because there is so much you can do with that name.

From what I can tell, each of these lists has one thing in common: They all include some form of Washington Football Team. 

 

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but if that trends hold, it certainly seems like WFT would have the highest chance of getting the most votes if it's the only one that appears on every ballot.

Yeah it sounds like the white jersey and white pants are going to be heavily influenced by the color rush. Most concepts I've seen based off the leaks from earlier have mostly black with little orange on the white jersey. Which you won't hear me complain because I loved the Bengals color rush.

Yeah, of all the cities to use a royal themed name, Washington makes the absolute least sense. It's absurd that those names are even on the list.

I've heard it used in soccer for  a goal from outside the box that snacks the back of the net. I've never heard it used in other sports, unless you count someone "belting a hit to left field down the foul line".

I work in DC frequently and lived there for a while. 1) I've never heard that term before, nor have I heard anyone from DC use it. But 2) I did immediately understand what it was referring to. (Again, likely only because I have experience in/with DC.)

Typically these kinds of surveys include x amount of names and each list is randomly generated for each respondent. In theory, with enough respondents you will get a sense of what options are the most favored out of the group and can assess how they are rated. Each name will be placed in a list with every other name and the cream will rise to the top by being repeatedly selected. That's part of the reason you would allow people to choose two names because you don't care that some random guy likes a disliked name. You care that the most liked names by the most people are found. 

 

You would only do this type of survey at this stage when you have too many names to just let people vote. Nobody is going to take a survey where they have to choose their 5 favorite out of 50 names but people will do this 5 times on lists of 10.

 

This is how this should be conducted... but this is Washington and Dan Scneider we're talking about so it could be a conspiracy to popularize their pre-selected favorites.

I'm actually glad to see Redhogs on the list.  That's the only name I like as much as Redtails.  Either one would allow them to salvage things that have already been part of their identity for decades.

Right, that all makes sense, but it doesn't explain why some form of Washington Football Club -- whether it be Washington DC Football Club, just Football Club or some other iteration -- seems to appear on every ballot. To me, that suggests that they're stacking the deck.

Like I said I have no idea what their motivations are, maybe they just want to find a well liked team name and maybe they're stacking the deck.

 

But... usually adding several similar options does exactly the opposite of what you're suggesting (if names are randomly assigned). You would be splitting the vote of WFT people by having WFT, WFC, DCFC, etc. If the lists aren't random, then you're probably right and they want those names to be selected so the best shot is to include a lot of them. Or, it could all be legit and they just wanted to include all possible names. Unfortunately, without knowing more about their process it's impossible to say.

I see what you're saying, and that makes sense. It could also be something they use in the aggregate. A version of the name appears on every ballot, and they can say XX% of all voters chose some form of WFT, therefore making it the most logical choice.

I completely agree with you, but let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment. The counter argument that I’ve seen on these boards(and that will inevitably come up again) is “We need to erase all connections to the past name.” While I understand that, people are going to still call them “Reds***s” no

matter the name. Also, it’s etched into history. They won Super Bowls as it. Why not combine the nickname they earned during one of the best periods in franchise history, and the color that they wear that harkens back to the old name, while still moving forward?

I wanted the Redsk*ns name gone as much as anyone, but I'm not so militant about completely erasing the fact that they were ever called as such.  Redtails would allow them to keep their circle and feather, only replace the Indian head with probably a W or R.  Hell, they could even bring back the circle R logo designed by Vince Lombardi, who actually demanded that he be allowed to have a Native caddy when he golfed at what was a whites only country club in Wisconsin.

Redhogs would require more of a rebrand, but... as you said... Hogs is tied into the most successful period of the franchise's history and is still a huge part of their fan culture.  It would also, perhaps even more so than Redtails, shut down any arguments that the team is trying to erase history.

At the risk of getting “too political”, considering our current political discourse, and the fact that this particular name sounds alarmingly close to a lame dis one side tosses at the other, I don’t think that’s gonna fly.
