wasn't Kaepernick highly regarded when he was drafted, even if not a first-rounder?  IIRC they traded up for him, so I think most people expected him to do something.

Yeah I mean I guess as far as anyone expected a mobile quarterback out of the University of Nevada to go. I watched basically every one of his games in college and was already a huge fan. I thought he might be a serviceable backup that would make a little bit of noise if he ever got the chance to start. I certainly never expected him to be the guy that got that 49ers team over the hump and to the Super Bowl. He absolutely far surpassed any real expectations I had for him.

The Bills are 2-2 against the Chiefs in their last four. Unfortunately, those two losses are in the playoffs.

The Bengals leapfrogged the Bills in the AFC hierarchy for sure. If last year was a fluke, this year they showed they're for real. Better coaching. Better big game players. Better scheming.

Today sucked.

I know how you feel and I wish the Bengals hadn't been the team to eliminate the Bills.

Don't take this personally as a Bills fan, but my frustration this offseason was that the Bengals were treated like a fluke while the Bills got all the benefits of the doubt. It's not your guys' fault, but they were the trendy pick of so many pundits. All of the NFL Network Sunday show people picked the Bills, for instance, which is just bad television.

I really can't believe how not close it was and I'm really glad it didn't come down to a terrible call or something. I felt all week like if the Bengals were going to win they'd have to win by multiple scores so Roger couldn't manipulate a replay review to get his neutral site conference championship test*. By the way, that was a touchdown catch and that was a fumble.

*I'm on Team: That's a hideously bad idea and I hope it never happens.

Bengals should be the standard for AFC teams. Not Kansas City or Buffalo.

they have to win this game to be the standard. Otherwise, KC will have been to 3 SBs, and have made it despite losing their top receiver.

I’ll always root against Andy Reid, so I’m pulling for Cincinnati, but right now the Chiefs are still the standard.  The Bengals can change that in 6 days.

This is why neutral site conference championship games could happen. From the Ringer...

Quote

The league is interested in neutral-site games because of the competitive balance that would come from eliminating the home-field adva—hahahaha, just kidding, they want it because it’s more profitable. You can make a neutral-site game a big event and sell tickets to it months in advance instead of waiting around to see who qualifies for the title game. You can book concerts around the game and host brand activations and tell fans to stay at the Official Hotel of the NFL. It can become an NFL event instead of a celebration for a home team.

The Bengals do not have better coaching. Are we 100 percent sure Zac Taylor is the reason they win these games? I thought Harbaugh outcoached him last week save for the fumble.

Are you sure he's not? He's comparing the Bills to the Bengals and I don't know after yesterday how you can say the Bengals don't have better coaching than the Bills. They went to the Super Bowl last year, they're one game away from going back again, and he calls the plays - You can't say Zac Taylor isn't one of the reasons they're winning these games. Also, coaching includes Lou Anarumo, who held the Bills to 10 points yesterday.

Harbaugh's a good coach, though, and had the benefit of an extra game to prepare for the wildcard game. Due to the coinflip scenario, the Bengals didn't have that luxury and lost their starting right guard as a result. The Bengals were effectively asked to win their wildcard game twice, which is a really tough request for any team, let alone against a familiar opponent, let alone one who's already a bad matchup for the Bengals. The Ravens might be the best defense the Bengals see in the postseason. I wouldn't try to take any lessons from that game that had a lot of weird circumstances.

With 75 yards to go in one play, I at least get the idea of trying something you know the defense has never seen before.

That play looked hilarious and it went so badly that we never even found out what it was supposed to do. That said, the chance of scoring there is so miniscule that this is not the focus of anything. It's the terrible play, particularly by Prescott, throughout the game that matters.

Similarly, lots of Vikings whining about Kirk's checkdown at the end of their loss.  It wasn't ideal but it took a 0.001% chance of victory away. The defense that let the Giants look like the Greatest Show on Turf was the problem.

If that happens, it's at least going to  have to wait until Aaron Rodgers retires. And even then, the idea of an NFC Championship game not being able to be held at LAMBEAU FIELD! might be beyond the pale.

All that aside, it's stupid. I would never be an NFL season ticket holder. They stick you with preseason games and take the occasional regular season home game overseas.* If they took away the opportunity to have this enormous game at home, I'd give up my (non-existent) tickets.

*Maybe not as big of a problem if the extra home game is moved, but the idea of going to 7 games on top of two junk games always pissed me off.  On the other hand, the NFL has such a captive audience, such money-making schemes are viable.

The Bills were confused and out of sorts all day. The Bengals were prepared.

The coach gets the credit for that.

Beyond the obvious reasons why neutral site conference championships are bad, I’d rather they just expand the Super Bowl rotation if they want to get more stadiums involved in the league. I’d love to see Detroit and Indy get second cracks at it.

I don't know if this is a hot take considering the Eagles were the best team all year, but I think they're a bad match-up for San Francisco.

Their defense is just as capable of slowing down/stopping the 49ers offense like the Cowboys defense did last night and the 49ers have shown a surprising susceptibility to teams with QB's who can run well. No team utilized an offense with a running QB better than Philadelphia this season. Their OC created a system centered around Jalen's talents that always has a counter for whatever the opposing defense tries to take away. It puts defenses in a bind because no matter what they choose, the Eagles offense makes it the wrong choice.

Should be an interesting game.

Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC

Stefon Diggs stormed out of the Bills stadium yesterday after yesterday’s lost frustrated. Didn’t talk to the media or anything. Just left.

Fellow Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie was able to speak with Diggs last night. Diggs kept telling him “Every year? It’s the same thing.”

Sounds like some coaching changes should come to Buffalo.

I know where he should play next season; Dallas. He'll fit right at home.

When you have an extra home game (under the current scenario with 17 games) you only have one home pre-season game. If one of your games has gone overseas, you don't pay for that game in your season ticket invoice.

As it relates to GB, the two season ticket holder bases flip on who gets the added game. It was supposed to belong to Milwaukee this year, but it got moved overseas, so they'll presumably get it in 2024. When that happens, it's the Green Bay base that gets stuck with the single pre-season game.

Prices have changed in recent years, so that the nominal price of the pre-season game is lower than the regular season games. That's actually made it easier to sell those tickets. I won't be happy if/when this happens, but I'm not gonna get worked up over something that hasn't happened yet.

It's where I sit.

Viking fans saw this Diggs act up close.  Happy Stefon is awesome. Great teammate, great player. Frustrated Stefon is another story. Just wait for the cryptic tweets and the selfies while  wearing another team’s jersey.

Yeah; it's not as bad as it used to be. I'm a bit outdated now but in the metrodome era, the Vikings would always be the "home" team overseas and I recall thinking that it was BS to have to eat two preseason games and then go to 7 regular season games.  So now, every-other year, it's a much better deal...I kinda forgot that there are not four preseason games anymore. That said, I still don't like the idea of not having a reward for the #1 seed (well, their choice of uniforms) and not having season-ticket-holders get to go without traveling.

I know you are a season ticket holder so your reaction matters more than mine (seriously, in case that seems sarcastic).

So while my argument turns out to be outdated, I still think moving that game to a neutral site would stink.
