TruColor
I'll trust Colorwerx that there IS going to be a black cap. Still, I hope to see that combo at least once. It's still in there in the official files, but who knows? They may have made a change.
zpalffy
IF NOT, we will see the return of the mythical and infamous Blue Cap with Black Jersey combination. The Mets wore that combination exactly once, in the 2nd game of a double header sometime in 1998. I know I'm not crazy because others on this forum remember that game. Every couple of years there is a thread about it, and a witch-hunt for photographic evidence, of which there is NONE. It was unforgettable, really, it was that garish. I kinda hope that they do it again if/when they wear black this year. EDIT: Kevinmets, just saw your post, we're on the same wavelength! Do you remember that game from 98? I can still picture Carlos Baerga turning a double play in that combo.NO I DONT REMEMBER THAT GAME! Oh man, that blows my mind. I NEED to find photos! (I'm sure the Mets went out of their way to destroy them). At least we have that tiny cellphone picture of Terry.I'll trust Colorwerx that there IS going to be a black cap. Still, I hope to see that combo at least once.I believe it was this game: 8/18/98 - Game 2For some reason I remember the white Bobby Jones wearing the blue cap/black jersey combo.I have yet to find any graphical evidence other than my memory though. www.StadiumPage.com
griffelh
Well, the Mets finally do something right. I love the new old look, but it would be nice if they could make some positive personnel moves as well.

Lights Out
Oh, what could have been...If the roads looked like this, the Mets' new look would get a perfect 10 from me. As it stands, they're in the 8.5-9 range. So close to perfect, but not quite there. POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/
darkhaha
Does anyone know the name of the number font? I know it's a fairly standard sans-serif block, but the 7 in particular is sort of distinctive. I believe this is the exact same font the Broncos used on their '65-66 set. FiddySicks
When i first heard they were dropping black, I thought, ehh. But after seeing the new set my mind has been changed. They look awesome now, and they're so clean and crisp! The black really did muddle the whole set, much more than I initially realized. If you use script at home, use script on the road.9x out of 10 I'd agree with you here, but IMO the two-word New York script just doesn't look good nor does it go with the Mets script, even though they're the same exact style. Maybe just because Mets is so short and New York is longer, or because the Y dominates the New York script, I'm not sure - but to me, it just doesn't look right (it's not "bad", just not "good".)In these cases, I'd generally advocate a solid block font so as not to have contrasting styles (I consider the block to be neutral, like a block NOB over a custom number font) but the historical significance of their Tuscon-ish wordmark wins out.
