Breakdown of Seattle Seahawks New Uniforms

I still say that if you slap a Navy Blue facemask on the helmets, the current Seahawks wordmark just below the collar on the jerseys (in White on the home, Navy Blue on the away), and render the numbers in a custom font based upon the wordmark, either of these uniform set concepts Buc created would be light years better than the abominations that Nike unveiled on behalf of the Seahawks yesterday.

Those are absolutely perfect. Seriously, any time an NFL team is looking to do an update or change their look, they should just come here and hire one of our people to do the job. We have a pool of talent that really needs to be utilized.

Anyway, I agree 100% with Brian. Excellent work Buc.

The uniforms are definitely growing on me. They're out there, for sure. But I think that's a good thing. Nothing wrong with having a handful of teams go super modern along with the classic looking teams.

The one thing I don't like though, is that with this change the Seahawks have changed a major piece of their branding, the helmet, three times in a relatively short period of time. With as strict as the NFL (supposedly) is about keeping a strong and solid brand to the point where they won't let teams have alternate helmets, that's a really poor choice IMO. I also have a strong feeling that this current helmet won't last all that long. It may not end up that everything changes, but things like that crazy helmet stripe, and IMO, the helmet color, probably won't last. They could soon head into Padres territory after years of having a fairly consistent look. You NEVER want that. It's crazy to think that between the Bucs and Seahawks, who both came about in 76, that the Seahawks would end up as the team with the identity crisis. Tampa's creamcicle's are a modern classic now (inexplicably), but they were an absolute disaster when they were used full time. Scrapping that look for the new set was a great move and Tampa now has two pretty timeless looks.

Two days removed, and I like them even more. Little tidbits like other players and probably executives doing a little navel gazing at their own unis are interesting to hear, and simply based on the spotlight that Seattle got, I am guessing more then 1 or 2 teams next year will be making significant changes for re-branding/re-marketing/re-enegergizing fans/re-energizing apparel sales.

For the often N(o)F(un)L(league), this is as outward as a team can get. I like that my favourite team is the trailblazer and progressive with this, and look forward to the the retro when it comes out in a few years. Seattle didn't "need" to do it to boost tickets or pull wool over fans eyes given the sellouts, the cap space, and the young team they have, but with the management they have in place, its not surprisng they'd embrace something like this from a number of angles.

One thing that does have to sort itself out with the unis, are the replicas (I notice there are three levels of jerseys to be able to purchase (the top tier and lowest tier in 10 days, the mid tier in the Summer). Looking forward to getting a white one at some point prior to the season, but it needs to look as close to the real thing as possible design wise (maybe without the pro materials), an not have as long of sleeves as the Nike webpage show.

the blue jersey with silver pants looks the best. The monochrome is a bit over load with the blue, and looks kind of un-balanced.

I like the jerseys, the number font is good, and they're miles better than what they've been wearing.

My fantasy teams: West Coast Cardinals (WRU), Glasgow Claymores (RLI) (Champions 2012) and Pemberton Foresters (VBL)

You're absolutely right, and it will never happen. That's because 99% of the professionals in any field bristle at the notion that some guy with a high school diploma and a completely unrelated job/career can perform at the same level they can. I've always believed such untapped talent is probably the biggest wasted resource in the entire U.S. economy, and the main reason is ego. A shame.

Isn't your background in radio? There's a guy in Atlanta sports radio, Chuck Oliver, who won some kind of contest to find the most authoritative college football fan in the area and parlayed that win into a very successful career. That probably grates on at least some of his "traditional track" colleagues.

I watched that video and according to the guy talking Seattle wanted it all. If that's what full Nikefication® looks like in the NFL, I'm fearful for Jacksonville next year.

I just noticed something...

...Look closely at that left glove. Looks like that truss-like pattern on the backside of the hand mimics the trusses that span over the top of Qwest Field (or whatever it's called these days). If so, that's actually pretty cool.

That's about the extent of the "coolness", though, with this set.

Is this the gray jersey? My eyesight must be worse than I thought cause I can never tell the gray from the white.

OK. After a few days to digest, I've come up with what bothers me about the new uni. It's made up of 3 distinct parts that are fine on their own but don't mesh. Realized this is the same thing that bothers me with the Oregon uniforms. Helmet look/feel doesn't match the uniform.

These are both spectacular, but I prefer the bottom one.

Hell I'm scared who knows what kinda Oregonish abomination were going to end up with that's dominated by black and swoosh !

Referring to the two concepts posted above...yeah those look nice. I wonder how it would look with the lighter blue instead of the navy on the second concept. Another crazy thing is how the grey shades look different between the two pictures, yet they're the same.

That's exactly what the problem is. You've outlined it well here - three great ideas on thier own, but when put together, an inconsistent problem of a uniform. It's a pull-tab mix-n'-match board (your diagram even makes it look like one :P).

I kinda like it I'm surprised the Seahawks were the only team to completly changed uniform I thought the Panthers was going to get a makeover to go with their new logo.

I have a strong feeling that the Panthers were going to change, but panicked at the last second and didn't. Changing just the logo seems suspiciously like a freak out move to me.

They were even one of the teams who rejected Nike's "new technology" like the Packers did. Very strange indeed...
