  1. Midnight Green ≠ teal ≠ aqua ≠ Panther Blue

  3. Sure. But on this site, we aren't lay people. We can debate whether or not yellow or gold are the same in Pittsburgh and Green Bay. But we should also know that aqua, teal, and [location name] blue aren't the same in Miami, Jacksonville, Carolina and Detroit. BTW - I have always effing loved that Detroit's blue is Honolulu blue. It makes no sense, but I love it.

  4. They are definitely different enough compared with each other. Lighting may make them look similar sometimes, but still noticeably different.

  5. There you go, it's Panthers blue. If you want to use the Pantone name, it's Process blue. If you want to be non-specific, light blue tends to work best, at least in my opinion.

  7. Honestly, the Jaguars current set has grown on me quite a bit since it was initially unveiled. Sure, it is a bit simplistic and may at worst even look somewhat like a "practice jersey," but as @oldschoolvikings said, that isn't really much to complain about given some of the uniforms we've gotten over the past few years. Having teal as the primary is absolutely a huge upgrade, as wearing the combos that include teal really improves this set. Not to self-plug, but I think a combination of elements from each of the Jags' past sets (except the Reebok piping years, I didn't like those at all, beyond the helmet) I think the Jaguars could come upon a perfect set for themselves. Using a number font similar to the 2013 redesign, the striping from the current set, with the inclusion of bits of gold from the inaugural uniforms, I can't think of anything else I would change:

  12. Thanks! Thanks. I have a Rangers set in Stars colors prepared that I'll post at the end of the series. Up today we have the Minnesota Twins! TWINS HOME TWINS ROAD TWINS HOME ALT TWINS ROAD ALT While @Jake3roo suggested I put the Twins in purple and gold, I opted instead for the forest green, scarlet and harvest gold colorway used by the Minnesota Wild. Something about these colors just screams “Minnesota” to me. The “Minnesota wheat” trim color is used as the base for the road uniform. C&C appreciated as always! The Marlins are on deck.

  15. I'm not going to cry for Brandiose after they've been rolling out the same local flavor/unique name/snarling logo formula (with hometown research visit!!) for years now, but does this mean MLB is trying to lock out all independent designers from their minor league system now? I wonder what cut rates MLB can offer to their new affiliates to make them change their minds or if it's clubs simply agreeing with Sodboy's thoughts above. From the article: “Now that the PDL system has been formalized and we are officially an affiliated team, we have the chance to collaborate directly with Major League Baseball’s branding, licensing, and apparel experts and their vast connections around the nation to bring our new team identity to life in even bigger and better ways,” the team said on its website. “We’re excited to be the first Minor League team to have the opportunity to take advantage of these resources to showcase the team identity chosen by our fans on a national stage. To allow time to take full use of these new resources, we will be unveiling the new team name following the 2021 season.”

  18. Not really. Here's two photos of the uniforms under a bright sun. You can easily tell that these two are not that similar at all. One is more blue while the other is more green.

  19. Thanks! I think you'll be happy with how the Nats turned out. I actually like the athletic gold, as it breaks up the shades of green and red which are both fairly dark and muted and keeps the design from looking too "Christmas-y." Thanks! I will say you guessed five teams correctly. I don't think I'll be doing the Yankees, because changing their colors sounds sacrilege (also, Nets colors would make them look just like the White Sox). I'm on the fence about doing the Cards x Blues (that would basically just mean swapping out navy for royal blue, correct?) but I suppose if there's enough demand I can do it. Next up we have the Miami Marlins! MARLINS HOME MARLINS ROAD MARLINS HOME ALT 1 MARLINS HOME ALT 2 MARLINS ROAD ALT I decided to go full Miami Vice for the Marlins with colors from the Heat's City Edition uniforms. I honestly think this is a look the Marlins could pull off assuming MLB could get over its "no pink in baseball" insecurities. And it's not terribly far off from their current colors--just tweak the blue a bit, replace red with pink and stop emphasizing black so damned much. C&C appreciated! The Indians Cleveland Baseball Club will be up next.

  21. We'll see if I decide to do something with the Yankees. I'm warming to the idea. Thank you! Yeah, I'm very happy with how the Cubs and Twins turned out. And I too would love to see the Marlins return to teal and black, but in lieu of that the Vice colors would be my second choice. I think you'll be happy with how the Rangers look in Stars colors. Never thought about the Yankees in maroon...So are you suggesting a straight swap of their dark navy for maroon? Up today we have the Cleveland Indians! INDIANS HOME INDIANS ROAD INDIANS HOME ALT INDIANS ROAD ALT The Indians get the Cavaliers treatment of wine, navy and gold. Who knows if the Cleveland Baseball Club will change its colors when they rebrand, but if they do maybe they can go this route. I really like how the athletic gold pops against the muted wine and navy. C&C appreciated! I'm going to keep the next team a surprise so watch this space.

  26. A breakdown of the Jaguars' uniform history in their original design. I personally liked the inaugural version with their numbers and font. The change from 1998 is probably their best look. 1995 (first season with inaugural patch) 1996 (patch removed, uniform remains the same) 1997 (black side panels are added and a custom font (for number and NOB) was introduced. After legibility issues with the new font, the Jags updated the new font midway through the preseason. Also, the pants stripe goes through a minor change with the gold stripes made thinner.) 1998 (Black side panels removed.) 1999-2001 (No changes) 2002 (Black jersey and black pants with stripes introduced. Black pants paired with all three jerseys. Worn for next two seasons. Team also alters collar for NFL Equipment logo.) 2004 (10th season patch added. Black pants are now stripeless and worn with all three jerseys frequently. Numbers and NOB on white jerseys switch from teal to black. This uniform is worn until 2009's uniform change.) 2008 (Stripes changed on white pants from B/G/T/G/B to T/G/B/G/T for one season.) 2009 (new uniforms)

  27. Hi everyone, For my latest project, I wanted to do address the overabundance of blue & red teams across Major League Baseball. For inspiration, I figured I'd look at the colors of other local teams to create some regional visual unity, similar to the way that all Pittsburgh teams use black and gold. Note that some teams will be using throwback colors of local teams, such as the first team below. We start today with the Texas Rangers in the San Antonio Spurs' fiesta colors. Thanks to @Victormrey for the suggestion! RANGERS HOME RANGERS ROAD RANGERS HOME ALT 1 RANGERS HOME ALT 2 RANGERS HOME ALT 3 RANGERS ROAD ALT C&C appreciated! Another team will be up soon.

  28. Couple more things about the Coyotes from 31 Thoughts podcast episode. Chayka was forced to change his phone number during/after their arbitration because Arizona harassing him because they thought he was feeding information to Friedman I guess in Arizona you can only get a a sports betting license as part of a Tribe or as the owner of a local sports team, which seems to be a reason why Merulo bought the team in the first place The biggest trouble facing the Coyotes from the NHL is if the industry growth funds were misappropriated because those funds come from revenue sharing Friedman also said the law firm who met with Coyote employees is the same one hired by the league to investigate Dale Tallon, so the NHL might be starting to look into what's going on

  30. Just because a team didn't create an alt (Packers too, with the rumored alt that was shelved) or that a coach is repeating, wait for it, a rumor that he has heard that someone somewhere said something about a second helmet, doesn't necessarily give it credence. What if all of these rumors, repeated multiple times, are from the same uninformed speculation? It's like the recent ESPN 'story' on the trading of Deshawn Watson. A column was written that Houston ought to ask for 3 #1s for him. This article was part of a series of 'here's what each team ought to do'. The braindead folk in the talk show circuit ran with it as something other than 'let's create a list of things that seem like they would make sense' and treated it as 'here's something that has been discussed'. Listen - I'm not saying that they won't change the one helmet rule. But until I see something from someone within NFL Operations or the NFL Rules Committee saying it is under consideration, it strikes me as something with no traction.

  31. So can someone remind me, was it this year they will be able to vote on changing the helmet rule? So teams like The Patriots, Bucs, & Falcons could wear their throwback uniforms.

  32. The Cubs' home and Twins' away have to be my favorites so far. The orange and blue really work for Chicago, while forest green pinstripes on a sand jersey is out of the box but amazing. I'm not sold on the Rangers, but I understand the reasoning. If there's a team that shouldn't go away from the red and blue color scheme, I'd point at the Rangers though. I'd put my hat in the ring for a Dallas Stars version of the Rangers as there's not enough green in the league. In a similar vein of thought, I think Miami is good in the Miami Vice colors, but I would always vote for a return to the teal, black, and silver days. Lastly, I know maroon is literally blue and red combined, but I think the Yankees would look pretty good in just a solid maroon set... (though the Jets colors as @DNAsports recommended would look pretty good too!).

  33. I love the Spartanburgers! The Beacon is a well-known "drive-in"/burger/fried everything restaurant that I'd wager at least half of all native South Carolinians (at least those upstate of the fall line) have patronized at least once. My only gripe is that the burger doesn't have chili and cheese on it. The chili cheese a-plenty is what I picture when I think of the Beacon - even though it's apparently not their "signature burger" according to their site. The fries/bats logo is fantastic. Overall, I think the identity is perfect for a collegiate league.

  35. The gold trim on the number looks more like gold (matching that patch) versus the one on the shoulder which is more mustard. I do think that if it is part of the number like this, then adding it as a trim to the jersey number can work. It sucks that they had gold prominently featured in their identity in their last and to basically now having no gold except for the helmet logo. I wouldn't be surprised if after the 5-year waiting period is up the Jags will change their uniforms again. Their current set was the brainchild of Tom Coughlin's desire to simplify and kinda be like Penn State. Maybe the team wants to move away from that era and hopefully embrace the teal as the primary going forward and bring back some more gold to their uniform.

  38. Thanks! I was at Dodgers Stadium a few years ago and a version of the gold design I posted seemed to be fairly popular. Up today we have the Cubs! CUBS HOME CUBS ROAD CUBS HOME/ROAD ALT With the crosstown rival White Sox sharing a similar color palette with the Bulls and Blackhawks, I decided to put the Cubs in Bears colors. I brought back their mid-90s design for the alt and gave their home unis an off-white base to distinguish them from the White Sox. C&C appreciated! I'll have the Twins up tomorrow.

  39. I considered the Stars but didn't want the Rangers looking too much like Oakland by being another green-heavy team. I may go back and do another take on the Rangers in green and black once I get through the other teams I plan to do. Thanks! I'll be doing all the teams mentioned above expect for the Cardinals, since they have to be in red by virtue of their name. However, the other teams will have different color schemes than the ones you suggested. Remember, teams will use colors worn by or previously worn by other teams in their same city/state. That's fair, but the new scheme I have planned for the Marlins will dispel any similarities between the two. Next up are the Dodgers! The Los Angeles Lakers have one of my favorite color schemes in all of professional sports, and it works really well for the Dodgers. This color scheme could also work well for the Twins, but I went in a different direction for them. DODGERS HOME DODGERS ROAD DODGERS HOME ALT DODGERS ROAD ALT C&C appreciated! The Cubs will be up next.

  46. So I remember when this Blue Jackets prototype was found in 2014, but I didn't realize there was a blue version too. And an interesting note at the bottom of the blog: A third prototype is known which is very similar to this one. It lacks the alternating, horizontal blue stripes and has a nameplate and numbers affixed. I hope the owner will let me photograph it one day to share on this blog.

  48. In 1989, the Canucks changed their uniforms once again, ditching the puke yellow home jerseys that Brian Burke, the Canucks assistant GM at the time, hated. They kept the logo and colours, but it could have been another radical colour and logo change. Burke liked the proposed design, but didn't think ownership wanted to make the change after spending $100,000 on the skate logo. The local designer also tweaked the skate logo, neither of which were accepted.
