You can get a concussion without a blow to the head. That's why I'm not really buying the "pinched nerve" explanation. When Peyton Manning got a pinched nerve in his neck, he had to get surgery and missed an entire season. Meanwhile, Mahomes will be magically cleared to play next week like nothing happened.

Keep in mind that 610 Sports is the official sports station for the Chiefs. I'm going to go on a limb here and say its probably legit. Also, Carrington Harrison is great. Check out his YouTube page as it has snippets from his shows. Nick Wright is also a 610 alum fwiw.

 

Hopefully Mahomes is okay to go next week if he didn't actually suffer a concussion.

You really think KC would risk the health of their best quarterback in actual decades for one game that they might not even win with Mahomes? To quote @Red Comet;

There's no risk to sitting Mahomes to ensure nothing serious does happen to him that could derail his career. Playing him if he's not in peak condition is not the optimal move. Play him in sub-optimal health and he ends up either making crucial errors or, depending on circumstance, getting :censored:ed up by another injury.

 

Also, dude was having clear as day balance issues. If he can't even walk to the locker room without aid and was having balance issues in locker room testing, no chance in hell he'd be able to run around a football field.

I agree that he shouldn't play against the Bills. It's not worth risking a whole career's worth of greatness on just one game. 

 

I'd like to believe that player safety will win out over the almighty dollar, but I'm just very skeptical that will happen because of the NFL's recent track record. Let's not forget that the refs ignored a clear and dangerous helmet-to-helmet hit that should have been a targeting call in the first half of that game. And earlier in the playoffs, there was that late hit by Jamal Adams that sent John Wolford to the hospital with a neck injury, also uncalled.

To be fair, nobody actually knows what is going on save Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and the physician monitoring Mahomes. Even a licensed physician that isn't connected to the Chiefs can't really tell you more than what we've all said. It's all a game time decision. Let's see what happens.

I'm not a doctor, but my father's one. I won't get into details but... 

 

A pro team came to him once when I was in high school. A player on that team had a medical issue related to my dad's speciality. They asked him to look him over and determine whether or not he was healthy enough to play in an upcoming game. 

My dad said "no, he absolutely should not play." 

The team then went to another doctor who gave the player the green light. The player played. 

 

Point is that if a team wants the player to play then they will play. And they WILL find a doctor willing to sign off on it. Even if it's detrimental to the player's long-term health.

I remember Gronk got concussed in the AFC Championship against Jacksonville, and he needed 2 weeks to recover from that. 

 

We'll know more when the practice report comes out at the end of the week.

Did you see Mahomes barely get back up during the game? I'm not a doctor, absolutely, but I know when things look terrible. That looked terrible.

When your superstar player is so out of it he can't even walk off the field without two people supporting him after struggling to even get to his feet to begin with, you're not putting that person back in for the next game. Better to keep Mahomes as healthy as possible for the next season than rush him back and potentially screw up your franchise QB.

 

You can always make another Championship game next season. You can't replace Mahomes as the franchise cornerstone. The Chiefs didn't give Mahomes that massive contract because they want to rush him back from a potentially serious injury.

I don’t trust a team led by Andy Reid to do the right thing, if that means losing a game.

Football people are, by and large, meatheads. We see Mahomes as potentially the next RG3; football players/coaches see a guy that WANTS TO PLAY!!! and they imagine the next "Brett Favre throwing 75 touchdowns the game after his father died" story.
