The use of copper is amazing.
Sigh. Goddamnit, Arizona State. WHY DO YOU KEEP TAKING ALL OF MY MONEY?!?!

I was totally content on not getting a jersey this year until I saw that. Now I pretty much have to.

Honestly, the more I see those the more I wanna see ASU ditch the Maroon and Gold For Grey and Copper. It actually fits the school tremendously well and it would be pretty unique.

ASU's colors are the one aspect of their brand I've never been terribly crazy about. They always give out gold shirts for football and hardly anyone ever wears them because it's a downright AWFUL shade of gold. And when you get a black ASU shirt (which a lot of people do) it basically ends up fading to that grey color anyway in a few weeks due to becoming so bleached out by the sun :P

How does dark gray fit the school tremendously well?

That's akin to saying anthracite and black should replace green and gold for Oregon.

Arizona State's colors have been maroon and gold. It's been that way for a really long time, even before you were a student. No reason to ditch it because Nike.

Well, copper mining is basically what built this state, for one thing. Second, there are a million ways Nike could tie in that grey color if need be and make it work. The thing I like about it is that it kind of reminds me of the buttes that the stadium sits in the middle of. Hell, keep the maroon instead of grey for all I care, just use that awesome copper color!

And it's not like ASU hasn't changed colors or even their mascot before. They started out as the Owls, changed to the Normals(!), then went to the Bulldogs before becoming the Sun Devils.

Well gold has been a school color since 1896, then they added maroon in 1898. So it's been a while since they've changed colors.

Anthracite is such a generic "any team" color, and copper isn't that unique to ASU. The Wildcats have used copper helmets for the last few years.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I hate the pants on that Shamrock Series uni, it would be a lot better if they were gold, that'd make a pretty solid uniform.

Probably so, I think that UA wanted something significantly different than the normal unis. Gold pants would make it look too close to the normal uni, IMO.

I like the ASU helmets, but like others have said, I could do without the anthracite uniform.

Did Tulane update their helmets with the new uniforms? I hope not.

i wish they used the blue more, love that color

They should have ignored the lime green color on the rest of the helmet/uniforms. Just kept it on the "Green Wave" logo as an accent. The two greens, blue, and silver create a muddled mixture.

Do you know what that jug was filled with? 75 years of tradition.

As a Michigan fan, I know that feeling. Add 134 years to that jug.

I'm a Michigan fan as well... but even for how much I despise Notre Dame, I still respect their tradition. Even for one game, I wouldn't want to see an inverted Michigan helmet or Ohio State replacing the Buckeye stickers with the block O. There's a short list of schools that should never be monkeyed around with, and Notre Dame is one of them.

When it comes to the Shamrock Series, I'm okay with Notre Dame breaking tradition since the games aren't played in South Bend. As long as they look good, that is. (I'm looking at you 60/40 helmet).

I like what UA did for the Shamrock Series this year. The Celtic pattern on the base layer and shoulders is really interesting, and I like the quilted pattern on the gold portions of the set. I'm not sure how the blue stripe and monogram make the helmet look more like the dome, but it doesn't look bad by any means.

Yeah, and I understand all that. I also know it's never gonna happen. It's just that... Maroon and Gold? Uggh. It's the one thing about ASU's branding that isn't a total win IMO. There are plenty of maroon and gold teams (One of which is also in the PAC 12 South) in college football. The colors just feel so 1970s shag carpet with the way that they fade out so quickly under the sun here. I've always thought that the two AZ schools have terribly generic color schemes. Part of that is age, of course. But both schools have tried to do things to differentiate from every other R/W/B and Red/Yellow team and ASU has done a pretty good job IMO.

I dunno, just my opinion.

BTW, talked to the guy at Cactus Sports and they'll be taking pre orders for these jerseys in the next few weeks. He also said they'll most likely be worn against Notre Dame, not UCLA.

Technically this isn't the first time ASU has dabbled in using copper for FB unis...

http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/85276-college-football-2012-season/?p=1811695

Both Arizona and ASU produced copper helmets around the same time of the Arizona Centennial, but ASU never did anything with it (granted it was a weird shade of copper).

I will say that these new unis look great in person...some of the lower res photos don't do them justice.

*In regards to adopting something other than gold/maroom...not sure it would ever happen since they've been used since 1896 and 1898 respectively.

However, I am surprised that the UofA hasn't done anything with their original colors for a one-time uni. Prior to 1900 the Arizona Wildcats wore sage green and silver.

Gotta say, Under Armour has done a very nice job with Notre Dame. The only thing they've done wrong is the stripes across the Shamrock Series pants. Adidas should be embarrassed.

UA has done some pretty decent uniforms. Auburn and Toledo and now Notre Dame. Have they produced any turds this year?

Don't forget about Texas Tech as well.

If the pants match the helmet Under Armor just showed up Adidas with one uniform. Adidas couldn't match the pants to the helmet to save their lives, and it looks like UA did it first try

Looks pretty damn close in normal lighting!

EDIT: Coheed beat me to it.

EDIT 2: Also, new "IRISH" wordmarks on the helmet bumpers. Looks like the ones from the 2012 Shamrock Series unis.

Did ua change anything to the design from the mockups presented at the announcement/press conference?

Reading some of those posts in that thread just shows how quickly the landscape of college football uniforms has changed since 2012. This was before the "chrome wave" we see today.
