Easy with the undertones, dude.

It's not meant as an undertone of anything.  But they've literally made movies about this.  It's just the basketball version of a rags-to-riches story.

Same as the starving artist who picks up his Fender and rides a Greyhound to Hollywood because he's gonna be a star.  Don't forget to wait tables by day and serve drinks by night at some upper-crust party.  And one night, he gets a random opportunity to sing in front of the crowd when the featured performer got held up.  Of course there's an agent in the audience...

It's just become a trope more than anything.

It’s a great wordmark in theory, but it could really use a pro’s touch to clean it up.

For example, the awkward spacing between the outline of the A and the crossbar of the T’s is smack dab in no man’s land, the joint of the inner curve of the E is weirdly angular and all wrong, and NEW MEXICO needs to be shrunk down by about 20% because there’s more space between the W and M than between the wordmark and the edges of the crossbar.

So the Camping World Bowl becomes the Cheez-It Bowl...what does the old Cheez-It Bowl become now?

Hopefully they just get rid of that bowl game. There really isn’t any reason the Phoenix area should be hosting the Fiesta Bowl AND some other third rate bowl a few days prior.

But third rate bowls are so important when you have 2 six-win teams competing in it.

These bowl game sponsors give me a headache.

Looks like they're going back to the Cactus Bowl name, unless they find another title sponsor:

ASU students getting drunk while watching a 10-7 OT game isn't reason enough? How else will trust fund frat boys find an excuse to get blasted?

The kinda-serifs on the S bother me, too.  In a vacuum I like them, but I wish the E had something at the end of the word to match.

It feels like this tug of war between serif/sans or curvy/sharp right now.

Hopefully they work that in to an alternate helmet because their current one is awful.

I agree. A half body of pistol pete over a wordmark is fine for a primary logo for the field, print, media, etc., but it is a terrible helmet logo. You cant make out what it is on the helmet unless you are on the field next to a player. They need something simpler.

I'd posted the text below in the locked NFL megathread regarding Oakley's COVID-19 visors for the NFL. Now it looks like we are getting the first glimpse of what some of these solutions might actually look like. Schutt has released this. While their solution is cheap, it also looks cheap. But I get it -- it's tough to mass produce something like this on short notice, (especially in our current reality), with the multitude of helmet and facemask options that these need to be able to connect to. I just hope Oakley's will be one continuous piece -- preferably without the velcro straps.

Curious as to how this might affect the aesthetic on Sundays --

NFL engineers and sports equipment company Oakley are testing prototypes of modified facemasks that may contain surgical or N95 material, the NFLPA's medical director said Monday.

Mayer said he wasn't sure exactly how the modifications would look, but he acknowledged that it is realistic to think that the new designs could cover a player's entire facemask, and that the engineers were working on all such a design might entail.

""They've got some prototypes; they're doing really good work," he said. "Some of them, when you first look at them, you think, 'Gosh, no' -- 'cause you're not used to seeing it; you're just not used to seeing it. But they're looking at every issue you can imagine, including when it fogs up. What do we do with that? But these guys are used to dealing with this stuff."

So it sounds like it would be wrapped around the entire facemask. Coming from Oakley, I'm thinking visors would be mandatory and this facemask-mask will be somehow attached to the visor.

It had me wondering if they could they get away with wearing a version of these instead of something draped across the actual facemask.

But if the material is anything like the N95 masks, I'd imagine that wouldn't make much sense for these guys. Oxygen is a little important to them being able to perform at this level.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Surely they will put something together that they can fully breathe out of. Maybe just extend the visor down?

The bowl game played in Charlotte that has been the Continental Tire Bowl, Meineke Car Care Bowl, and most recently the Belk Bowl, will now be known as the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

Duke's Mayo will also sponsor an early season game in Charlotte now called the Duke's Mayo Classic. This year's game will be Notre Dame vs Wake Forest.
