The North Stars seem like a fair comparison to the Texans in this case. Metro area loses beloved team, gets an expansion franchise, but fanbase still pines for the old look.

I don't know much about the Houston market: in terms of local popularity, are the Texans the most popular? Like, have the people of Houston over the past 20 years fully embraced the franchise?

I ask because teams seem to make these rebranding moves as a means of re-energizing a fanbase. If the community isn't fully engaged with the Texans as-is — and it wouldn't be surprising considering the on-field performance of late — then returning to a color scheme steeped in nostalgia would seem like a low-risk/high-reward move, the benefits of which could carry forward for decades.

It's a much more controversial topic in Minnesota, where the community has enthusiastically embraced the Wild, but the tug of nostalgia remains strong.

The Texans were fully embraced and supported through many bad seasons from the start until the end of the 2019 season. Then the Texans made many horrible trades (Deandre Hopkins and cuts in the name of "team culture." You combine that with Deshaun Watson asking to be traded followed by the numerous allegations and many locally just stopped caring. The team went from a mid-pack playoff contender to bottom dweller overnight. They had a season ticket waiting list over 15,000 deep and now the waiting list is non-existent.  If the team showed some signs of life the fans would come back fast as we do love our football here. But its hard to support a franchise that for a few years it did not seem they were trying to field a good team. If they went with columbia blue it would provide a spark as the only time the Texans have been mentioned locally in the past 3 years was as a punchline.

Well there you have it...about the most inadvertent leak of all time. (Well except for the whole Jacksonville Airport fiasco.)

And are my eyes fooling me, or is that a brighter shade of light blue...something more along the lines of the Panthers' blue, with a lil more green in it, rather than the softer luv-ya blue?? IF that's what they're doing, that could be a viable workaround to the IP issues (unless my previously-spoken conspiracy theory becomes true, that is)...and in truth, I wouldn't be mad about seeing that bright a colorway in the NFL or in Houston.  (At that/this point, though, they may as well change the nickname since it's so obvious the direction they're going in.)

That shade of blue is really hard for me to differentiate, but that red is very vibrant. I love that red.

At DeMeco Ryans’ introductory press conference, the Texans put 2 helmets on tables behind him.

BOTH WERE BATTLE RED

could be nothing….. unless….

They can't release any info on the uniform changes or rather i think they won't until closer to release next off season.  They made all media members who saw sneek peeks not disclose any details.

I did hope, however, that if this is a one off season before major changes, they use battle red helmets all season. Hopefully that's a sign that they are on the same page.

It’s worth pointing out that teams are allowed to have a second helmet now, and with the benefit of starting from scratch with a redesign, the Texans could conceivably have a “clash” set with a completely different color scheme from the main set.

Maybe the main sets sticks with navy, but the alternate goes all in on Luv Ya Blue?

I’m not saying it would or should happen, but it could.

That's my belief of what will happen. New primary uniforms with the original logo and colors and new home/away alternates with a differently named luv ya blue and a brighter red and the H logo or the H-Town script on the helmet. The latter i would despise. The H logo on it's own, i approve.

It’s a good point, we are just re-entering a time where teams can have another helmet (3 if the Eagles get their way).

Last time they did this teams only really did one alt a year, and I think maybe only for 2 games instead of the now 3.

It’s certainly going to open up some stuff like that.

Not just Eagles going all black, or Bengals going All-White. But could totally see teams do that Alt colorway take on their unis for a season or two, then scrap it for another. (Merch Money would have the owners’ attention)

Would be a very NBA move, and I’m sure most results would be hated here ha.

Will be interesting to see full 4 uniform sets built with these new rules.

I'm pretty sure NFL rules state that alternates can only use Team Colors, whether that's their Current Colors or Throwback Colors. At least, that's what the rule was with Color Rush. So unless the Texans add Columbia Blue to their logo or regular uniforms, no Columbia Blue alternate,

Sounds like we have a slew of changes in the near future, but nothing that we know of this year. Usually we'd have a teaser or some  substantial evidence by this point in the year. Heck, it's already been a full calendar year since the Commies unveiled their disastrous rebrand. Seems like we'll only be getting reintroduced throwbacks, a new Rams alternate, and probably some surprise alternate helmets this year.

As far as we know, the next few years will likely bring rebrands for the Broncos, Texans, Cardinals, Lions, and perhaps the Eagles. Wouldn't be too surprised to see teams like the Ravens, Saints, or Panthers refresh their sets in the coming years, but there haven't been any rumors of change on their parts.

I could see the Jets bringing back the 80s/90s throwbacks next year and dropping the blacks. They made some reference to other teams planning to wear throwbacks in 2023 back when they released the black helmets and I'm pretty sure Woody Johnson is aware of the Jets fans thoughts on wanting the throwbacks

The 2023 season is also year five of the current Jets uniforms (wow, already?).

Barring something wild, it'll be the first year since 2016 with no new NFL uniforms. I really thought the Cardinals or Broncos were going to change this year.

From what I can recall, it’s been fairly quiet on the uniform news with the Cardinals. I don’t even know if they’ve started the process (which they really need to do, their current set has seen better days). The Broncos had previously said they weren’t going to change uniforms until new owners came in, to put it shortly. That process has started already, but we won’t see the final product until next year at the earliest.

I would love that, but sheesh, they only wore green once in a 17-game season, so I am not betting on it.
