Nike NFL uniforms "sneak peak"

and BBTV, who are the reputable sources? Or is that just a vague statement with no actual fact behind it?

Paul Lukas has mentioned it on UW before, and it's been discussed by some of the members here who are either in the business or otherwise "in the know". It seems like every year for the past few we've been wondering if this was finally going to be the time they unveiled the black jersey.

This might be common knowledge that i just missed seeing but is nike planning on bringing its speed machine type collars to the NFL? I only asked because I saw your Browns concept on your wikipage johnny and the nike template had a funky collar.

Yes. All 32 jersey samples I've seen had the flywire.

BOTTOM LINE: NEITHER ONE IS RACIST.

Nah, the Skins' unis are very "touchable".

Better helmet, better colors, better design.

You know, I would'nt object one bit to the Redskins going right back to this look. Not one bit. I kind of wish they'd take the opportunity to do so with the switch to Nike, but it appears from what's been said in the thread that, unfortunately, something else is in order.

Theoretically, the white sleeves are for now a blank canvas, because after the BCSNCG, I could see Nike using what they did for Oregon with sleeve numbers/striping on the undershirts themselves.

It's just the undershirts. The main part of the shirt is team color. The sleeves on all of the shirts are white. They have the team name across the chest, all teams using same font. I was hoping Nike wouldn't do this. Reebok has been using the same font for all teams instead of using each teams' specific wordmarks and fonts. I think it's incredibly lazy.

Nike doesn't get the contract until April...they don't have the rights to use the wordmarks/logos in any public medium. Why do you think they used college footage of Bradford, Peterson, etc. in the commercial?

I hope so - I've been advocating that the Packers use compression shirts to bring back proper stripes for several years now.

Or better yet, make the jersey sleeves and shoulders out of the compression material and have the sleeves reach mid-bicep. Then enforce rules against jersey alteration.

How sure are we that this isn't a mandate from the league itself? It certainly seems plausible given the standardization of the Super Bowl logo. I think it's entirely within the realm of possibility that the leauge prefers a lot of the merchandise to have a standardized look.

But I do hate it as well.

The Bears heather 'generic' font speedwick shirt I bought this year is my favorite Bears shirt. I think these look bad ass, and you're forgetting that most teams' wordmarks totally suck.

Exactly. If you put the stripes on a separate compression garment, not everyone will wear them, and you'll end up with a bigger problem than what you already have.

The stripes have to be on the actual jersey.

throughout the 80's and 90's you had players (especially lineman) tailoring striped sleeved jerseys so short it effectively removed all stripes from their sleeves...did fans really care back then?..I don't think it was much of an issue back then.

Here's my biggest question. The price of Reebok NFL authentics can be as expensive as $300 to $400. Nike puts out authentic jerseys for college teams and they seem to be about 1/3 of the price. What are the chances that Nike significantly lowers the price of authentic jerseys? It would be an absolutely awesome move, and would make me jump aboard the Nike NFL train 100%.

Of course, I don't expect it to happen and expect for Nike to gouge the s**t out of us and actually raise the prices. But it would be nice.

So what info in there on the Saints?

....

That Saints currently have one of the top uniform sets in all the NFL, and if they permitted NIKE to give them any face-lift it would be really sad.

They only thing the Saints could tweak which would be for the better, IMO, is get rid of the black pants or add some decent stripes to them, and only wear them occasionally with the white jersey only.

The other thing would be to make the jersey numbers and nobs their current gold with a black outline on the white jersey like they once had. Other than that, leave the Saints set as they are, including those gold pants (with stripe as-is). Their black jersey with the gold numbers & nobs looks superb! (**)

The Saints set is SO bad. It is very close to being good, but there are just so many things that need to be changed. First off, on the home uniforms the helmet, numbers, collar and pants are all different shades of gold. Even the Cowboys don't wear four shades of a color at once. The pants currently are barely even gold, more of a champagne. The pants stripes need to match the helmet again. Also, the original shade of gold is far superior, so going back to that would lead to a huge improvement.

I've got to be perfectly honest, Nike "authentics" kinda suck as authentics go. The Reebok ones (although hardly authentic "on field") are leaps and bounds better than the Nike ones. Nike's are pretty much a replica with embroidery and 2 layer twill, comparable to the replithentics but with multi-layer twill instead of printed twill. Reebok offers a significant upgrade in material.

I own a Nike College one labeled "authentic" vs. a Reebok "authentic" they really are night and day.

Nike very well could increase the fabric quality of their authentics. They were quite nice when they had the Bears before and in some ways truly were "on field" authentics. (ex: Bears sleeve numbers being right, bottom stripe was on the cuff as it is on many players) But if its the current level of authentics, they should keep the price about 100 bucks because they compare to the Reebok Replithentic.

Don't forget that at the college level Nike pays the player nothing. That will change for the NFL deal so there has to be a price increase for that.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that putting the team name in a generic font will somehow compel people to buy a new item.

When people look for new and different items, I think we're talking more about side panels, inserts, different cuts and patterns, not generic font v. official wordmark.

Yeah but at the same time how many fans go out and buy team undershirts in the fist place? I own a metric-snuff-ton of football jerseys and t-shirts, jackets hats etc, but I've never ONCE even considered buying the offical reebok undershirt to go with it!

I own under armour that I play flag in or train in and wear cycling when it's cold but it's not 9ers stuff. I honestly dont think Nike expect to sell a whole ton of this to regular fans. The font might appear on other stuff but lets face it when Nike takes over the stuff in these pics is not gonna be their top seller and this wont be the only graphics they have on offer.

In my opinion, the only untouchable unis are the Raiders, Colts, and Cheifs

Disagree. The Raiders' road uniforms are VERY touchable. There's really no reason why they shouldn't be wearing these full-time on the road:

(Image)

And the Chiefs look bland and outdated, IMO.

Completely agree.
