2013 NFL uniform/logo changes

The worst part of the new Dolphins logo is the sun, IMO. Instead of the smooth, geometrically-appealing sun rays they went with the random points, with some points extending further than others and awkward, angular transitions between the rays. You don't really notice it on a white background, but when you add the keyline it sticks out.

It doesn't make much sense in my mind to come up with this smooth, sleek dolphin and then go out of your way to slap it on top of an agressive and pointy sun. I might have been a bigger fan if they removed the rays all together and went with a stroked-orange circle... it would have (at the very least) fit the feel of the new logo better.

thats a pretty good idea, but its just polishing a turd

I'm a fan of the new dolphin rendering... so different opinions I guess.

When I first saw the "leaked" Dolphin logo I absolutely hated it. But the more I see of it, the more I think it's going to work. The current logo is great and I really like it from an historical standpoint, but it is a bit goofy. this seems like a significant change without being too terribly drastic of a separation from the Dolphins history. also, I LOVE the change in the teal color. The current greenish teal they have now is awful.

Serious question: Why is goofy bad?

This isn't in response to your post, it's just a general observation - It seems that these days the prevailing "wisdom" is that every logo should look "fierce" etc. I think that's goofy. We get that the players aren't really Jaguars or Bears, etc., right?

Well duh, but it is a representation of the team. In the violent world of football, goofy is out of place. Save it for the kids club.

For me "goofy" isn't a call for a more fierce version of the logo, but a pure dislike of logos with animals wearing equipment. That just looks dumb to me. I like logos that are a straight foward, albeit stylized, renderings of the animal. Just looks more professional to me.

Agreed, sort-of. While this new logo isn't goofy it sure as heck isn't fierce.

Look at the Cards, Seahawks, Falcons, Lions etc...those logos all have a "Grrrrrrrrrr" attitude. The new Dolphin logo has more of a "Wheeeeeeeee" vibe to it

Like I and many others have said before...it's a great logo for "Dolphin Cruise Lines". In the end I'll learn to accept it because it could have been a lot worse.

I think if your team name is dolphins, fierce is pretty much off the table. Does anyone think of dolphins as a fierce creature? Remember Flipper? He went around saving people, not eating them :-)

you mean the dolphins that hunt in packs and fight with sharks? funny how dolphins in the wild are nothing like their sea world and tv counterparts.

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

Didn't your team, for years, put a Santa hat on the team logo at midfield every December?

The soon-to-be-old Dolphins logo was goofy, but you're high if you don't think it looked professionally designed. In fact that's what I like about it. It was a great facelift for a logo that had previously been poorly rendered.

The dolphin wearing the helmet just works for the team. They've always worn it, they played their most memorable seasons with it. It's goofy and kitsch, but guess what? That's Miami.

The new logo just looks to haaappppppppyyyyy for me...but it will probably fit in perfectly in South Beach.

Yes they did, and it was awesome.

I agree and I hope they bring back that tradition.
