Then what’s happening on the 14th?

The leak yesterday forced the team to move up the reveal. Jerseys still go on sale the 14th.

I thought the new set would have some tapered stripes. Been kinda Nike’s thing with Jets new jerseys and the pro bowl set from a few years ago. Wish they weren’t jersey side stripes, though. Or at least maybe the jersey side stripes could point down but don’t go all the way and the pant stripes start from the bottom and stop at the upper thigh. Then have the logo on the hip using the pointed stripes as a point force to the logo essentially.

Overall the home and road jerseys are pretty good. Simple enough. I’d make the ATL smaller, but again that’s kinda Nike’s thing right now. Numbers look big, too.

Gradient jersey isn’t good. Sure, push boundaries and try something a little different, but gradient jerseys have never worked well. It feels like we’re going backwards with this gradient jersey and the Rams gradient and shadowed mess of a logo. 90’s nostalgia is a trend right now, but trend chasing is fleeting.

Pants are good. The stripe helps break up the yoga pants look a little with same colored socks, but socks and pants being different colors is still ideal. Hope the reds never actually get worn.

Ideally after the combo experimentation runs its course they settle into black jerseys over white pants and white jerseys over white or black pants.

I really like the helmet. Satin black looks beautiful instead full gloss or matte. The oversized logo looks much more natural than the Bucs attempt. Silver face mask is nice, too.

Honestly these aren't as bad as the first leaks suggested. Doesn't change the fact that they are still not good.

Good:

-Simplified uniform. It looks better than the previous Reebok mess they had at least.

-Matte black helmet looks good. Minus the silverish facemask.

-Good mix/match possibilities. Looks better with different color pants/jerseys than with monochrome.

-I appreciate the attempt to make the red jersey stand out. Doesn't change the fact that it still is the worst jersey of the set.

-They kept the throwback set!!!! Very well done!

Bad:

-The silverish facemask looks out of place.

-The font/side shadow could look better. It isn't terrible but its not great either.

-I have no problems with slight gradients on football uniforms, but not a full body 2-tone one. Looks like a youth team/arena team/madden build-A-team.

-From the front the uniforms look way too bland.

-I usually don't have a problem with a larger wordmark, but "ATL" in one color is... too minor-leaguey.

-The red pants would look ok for the red jersey (still not good). Anywhere else should be a no go.

-When in the heck were side panels ok again?

It's an upgrade over their last set. But honestly, it looks like they were trying too hard to be "cool". Simple is better, but not when you turn to chrome facemasks and gradients to try to be cool. I don't think it's the worst set in the league, but I struggle to wrap my head around some of the design choices.

I just don’t like them. It feels “forced.”

They dont look like an NFL team. Their old jerseys had their problems but they looked professional. There’s just a lot wrong with these. “ATL”, chrome, oversized numbers, the side panels. They could’ve done so great with some small adjustments from the classics. But nope.

Dear god that gradient Jersey is awful.

Only a slight upgrade imo. Gradient jersey is horrendous. Ditch the monochrome and side stripes, shrink the ATL and it's pretty good. I don't mind the helmet, (although it's random for the Falcons) or the side shadows. I wouldn't say it's the worst uniform in the league, but I'm not sure who I'd give that honor to at this point.

My Nike redesign rankings:

Great

1: Vikings

2: Buccaneers 2.0

3: Lions

Good/above average

4: Jets

5: Seahawks

6: Dolphins 2.0

7: Jaguars 2.0

8: Dolphins 1.0

Below average/bad

9: Falcons

10: Jaguars 1.0

11: Titans

12: Browns

13: Buccaneers 1.0

Why is that?

The Falcons and some of their white fan base were pretty divided about Vick, but there was a scandal a few years ago (that naturally I can't find anything about now) where ownership/PR for the Falcons were caught discussing how Falcons fans weren't keen on rooting for a non-white quarterback.

The helmet is satin, not matte. The face mask is silver, not chrome.

Whoops, I was mistaken. Some angles where it was catching a lot of light must’ve been playing tricks on me.

In any case, it’s still a mismatch with the rest of the uniform in my opinion. It sticks out like a really sore thumb.

If they wear the right combinations, these are going to look fine. Different, but very cool.

The old uniforms never reflected the brand that the 2003 logo -- one that is the centerpiece of the brand, and really the brand itself -- conveyed. These do. The number font is edgier, and I like the black/white and road combinations just fine. The silver really ties into the feel you get going to a Falcons game. The metallic stadium, the giant metallic bird outside of it! lol

The only true disappointment I have with these is the red jersey is a major dud. The red pants also don't seem like they will work with any jersey combination. But if they wear the right combinations, these are going to be really clean and cool.

McCarthy said these looked like they were already dated by 15 years. Actually, it’s a bit closer to 20.

Never in a million years did I think I’d see an NFL team adopt the 2001/2002 Pro Bowl style. It’s even weirder that it happened nearly two decades later. Those 01/02 Pro Bowl jerseys are my absolute favorite NFL uniforms ever. Those were the first two NFL games I ever attended, and when I was a kid I thought those were so wild. But that’s purely a nostalgic view point.

The strangest thing to me is the Falcons just adopted a full body gradient uniform, which sounds absolutely absurd on its face, yet it’s still one of the most boring football uniforms I’ve ever seen. The gradient doesn’t bother me I think because these don’t strike me one way or the other enough to really care that much.

These aren’t completely awful, and there are a few elements that I think work decently enough. But they’re still boring as all hell, are completely uninspiring, and are a pretty clear downgrade from what they just left behind. I didn’t hate the last set like a lot of people did, but I can admit they set a pretty low bar in terms of improving their look. Even with that, they made a lateral move here, at best.

They basically took one giant set of problems they had with their look, and traded it in for a completely different, yet just as massive, set of problems.
