One year later, Let's try this again....

Chad Ochocinco changing name back to Chad Johnson

Whatever his name is, Super Bowl XLVI was the last time we have to see this clown in an NFL uniform. Extremely pleased he didn't get a ring. Good riddance!

I don't understand the hate for Ochocinco. He doesn't get in trouble with the law, he doesn't polarize locker rooms, he does charity.

As far as the name goes... the aircraft I'm assigned to is serial number 85-0085... needless to say we call it Ocho Cinco.

I don't understand the hate for Chad Johnson either. Sure he pulled some antics, but they were so tame in comparison to real jackasses like Terrell Owens.

What, does it have to be either/or? Can't we be waiting for both of those clowns to be out of the league and its spotlight?

We can all thank our lucky stars.

Ochocinco announced on his live USTREAM broadcast in 2009 that he would be legally changing his last name to β€œHachi Go” in 2010. He also held up a Customized Cincinnati Bengals Jersey with the last name "Hachi Go" on the back. Just as the words Ocho Cinco translate to 8 and 5 in Spanish, the words Hachi Go (ε…«δΊ”) translate to 8 and 5 in Japanese.[60] However, he did not go through with the name change.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

A name is so harmless and meaningless, especially one clearly picked out just to have some fun. "8 5", "Ocho Cinco", etc. is his brand, and athletes these days really are about building their own brand. That's just the way it needs to be with all of the money and other opportunities afforded to these guys. Teams don't necessarily sign a player, they "acquire a brand" in some cases. The guy isn't doing anything wrong off the field, and is just having fun on the field. I fail to see any reason for hating him or "thanking our lucky stars" that he didn't change his name again.

This. Once again, BBTV nails it.

Despite everyone wanting to bash him, Patriots fans and Patriots haters, he behaved this season. I can't hold anything against him while he did his job and gave it his all. No, he's not coming back to New England, and yes, he was a jackass for most of his career. But he's behaved recently so cut the dude a little slack.

He was on his best behavior only because he is not talented anymore and knew this was the end of the line with him. A talented jackass who puts up good numbers can get away with a lot of crap. But a fifth receiver who proves to be a distraction is out of work the next day.

The only difference between Terrell Owens and Chad Johnsocinco was that Owens was an actual "Hall Of Fame" talent. Aside from that, I viewed both players as whiney, sideshow, attention whores. How someone can dislike one but not the other is completely beyond me.

I really don't get a cocky, arrogant vibe from Ocho... he just comes across as a fun-loving, creative guy. If you want cocky and arrogant, take a look at TO or someone like that.

I also think the reports of his talent being in decline are greatly premature. For whatever reason, he never really meshed with the Pats' offensive system. I wouldn't be surprised if Ocho has a productive comeback season on his next team.
